Is Valheim worth buying now?
I want to buy Valheim, but I hear about Mistlands DLC coming out. Is it worth buying Valheim now or wait? Also, is the DLC free or paid?

It’s not a DLC it’s just an update.

If you think Valheim looks fun and worthwhile in its current state - it's probably worth getting now. If you don't have the patience for a several year Early Access process - you'd probably be better off not buying.
All updates in the EA-period are free as far as I know, Mistlands too.

It's top 5 value purchases on Steam for me, for 17€. Most my playtime in co-op though.

Hey there,

Valheim is currently in Early Access, meaning that it's not finished yet and will get more updates over time until it reaches a full release version ("1.0"). The devs have said that they don't plan on doing any paid DLCs.

You might want to give the pinned FAQ thread a read before buying:

Have a good day!

Seems like it has been already worth it for me. I have played it for over 100 hours and plan on playing for much more.

it was always worth buying. This is a great game, and very enjoyable. For a first game, from a new studio, this was a home run. So many things in this game were just implemented so smoothly and so right, it was a joy to play.

I paid when the game first came out give or take a month and i have been happy ever since , well worth it . If you love building exploring working stuff out , crafting mining beating up creatures , bosses , different biomes and are looking for a viking type game this is so for you . I tryed the VR mod for the first time recently and it gives it and even more wow factor. The game is just fine without mods just as much fun . Collecting stuff and making potions , rafts , small boats big boats so you have to avoid the shallows . Its money well spent on a game

It was/is the game I never knew that I always wanted.

This question just prostrates me. If there were no more updates, in its present form, full stop, at $14 and change Valheim is worth it. Twice the price would still be a bargain.

It is natural when seeing something that is an incredible deal to wonder what the hidden catch is. There are no hidden catches. It's EA and there is no guarantee of any further progress, but the devs would be crazy to stop now.

For $14 this game is an absolute steal in my opinion.

Buy it. Play it. For the price, you can't really go wrong.

For the price it is worth it, but the amount of content in the game currently isn't great. If you enjoy building and exploring then I'd say buy it now, otherwise wait until EA is finished so you can thoroughly enjoy the entire experience without six months of downtime in between updates.

If you know survival games and are into the whole exploration, gathering resources, crafting, farming, building, sailing the fair seas or just marveling at the beautiful landscapes stuff...

...then yes, by all means, go buy it right now.

OTOH, if you just care about killing bosses, progression and speed runs... don't bother. It's not the game for that.

No, the game is not worth buying until the devs prove they are actually going to finish it by the end of this decade. Look at the update history for yourself and you will see how slow development is. Put it on your wishlist and forget about it for a year, check back then and see how many updates have happened.
