Are all the swamps surrounded by the plains nowadays?

I returned to the game few days ago and I remember never seeing plains next to a swamp before. Now in my current worlds seed there's maybe one out of 10 discovered swamps that isn't surrounded by plains. Also even if the swamps are large there's often no crypts. Out of those ten only 2 have multiple crypts and one has only one crypt in it. Is this normal nowadays?
A bit hard to make a base and keep a boat on the swamp shore, dunno if it's worse to have plains between your base and the swamp which results in a safe base but disgusting "work path" with the mosquitoes.

Its random. The farther away you get from your start location the more likely you'll have the more difficult biomes present. If you want to build a coastal swamp base you can drop a workbench and flatten the terrain to get rid of some of the swamp water.

Still, seeing a fight between a couple of trolls and a lox is kind of epic. Especially if you helped them to find each other.

okay then my world seed is really bad for iron because none of the close to the center swamps have crypts even tho the swamps are medium size and not that far from the center all the swamps have plains surrounding the swamps. Like this seed has the longest swamp I have ever seen and even that swamp is surrounded by plains. But that island is quite far.

Are the wraiths and overall swamp mobs a pain in the ass if you make a swamp base?

I have a lox in swamp killing everything :D And it also killed 1 star troll with only losing a bit less than half hp.

Random maps are random. Sometimes you strike gold, sometimes the land is barren.

Just keep searching more swamps for catacombs. Iron is one of the tighter resources to manage, due to its limited supply and the huge number of recipes demanding it. Don't burn all your resources maxing out armor and weapons, try to rush the next zone instead. Silver is fairly abundant and makes iron gear obsolete, so it will greatly relax your iron demand.

Update: I found a swamp with some iron with only a black forest surrounding it so it's finally a safer one. I have been searching for 10 irl hours for this. Sailed so much. That 10 hours made me so desperate I had to make a post asking the question.

That does happen. On the server I play on the 2 closest swamps had 0 and 2 crypts and this is where Bonemass was. Completely surrounded by plains, far from shore, and a mountain that was unclimable on the safer side.

It was. I had to build a base on the cusp of the plains and meadow, stock up on good food, and then sneak around lox, tar pits, and villages all the way to the edge of the swamp and build a workbench and portal at the very edge.

Finding Moder's lair was kind of a let down after that.

I can't say I've ever found a swamp completely surrounded by plains although swamps do often seem to share a border with them. As for the lack of burial chambers, it seems to me that they're scarcer than they used to be. But it sounds like you have a rotten seed.

The best place to build a base in the swamp is in the trees. The big trees there are indestructible. Not even Bonemass can hurt them. Build stairs up 20m or so and build there. All pieces anchored to a tree will be blue so using several trees can get you a large tree house where only the wraiths can reach you.

Having spent quite a bit of time hitting the random button on seed generator, there are lots of mountains surrounded by plains, swamps not really so much until you get out about half way to edge, or at least across one good sized body of water.

The seed I shared here has a super long swamp and it's all surrounded by the plains :D

How do you get fireplace or fire for sleeping to the tree house? Raise ground?
