Terraforming still lags the game or not?
Greetings! I am sorry if it's been answered before but does terraforming ground still lag the game by creating thousands of instances?
I am returning after about a year break. So is it still best practice to not change ground at all and just build as it is?
Thanks! :)

I have been making large raised ground mountain bases and I haven't noticed any slowdown related to it and I play with some taxing mods too. It must not be an issue anymore.

Hmm thanks for your answer! It was pretty big problem back at early access launch.
Good luck and happy gaming!

I would say it greatly depends on your computer. If you have issues running it without terraforming you eventually will have greater issues. Otherwise, it will not effect you thanks to the update. I have what I would consider a "Mid-Range" PC and I see no lag due to terraforming, and I have gone to some extremes in that matter, including running a 10 person server with us all in the same town. Before the update a major town was unplayable even on high end PCs, now it is playable on potatoes. Just my 2cents worth. GLHF.

You just gave me so much to think about, in both a good and bad way. Thank you.

@OP Keep in mind that the terrain changes applied to new worlds.

If you are running an old world save then you need to run a command "opterrain" to convert old worlds to the new system. Some people did see issues doing this so backup save is not a bad idea either.

Yeah thanks :)

from my own experience it's only very complex and big buildings that makes the FPS nosedive. I've been doing some massive terraforming projects without it affecting the FPS one bit until putting down the buildings.

That's not a given depending on how the world is stored, a voxel based system like Minecraft doesn't care how many changes are made after generation.

Dont have problems with it anymore. The only thing that effects me now is lots of torches and fires

Hmm interesting. How bad is it nowadays? I've heard that huge buildings with a lot of torches are hard to keep lit up and that it lags pretty badly?
