But that doesn't make the game easy. If you're not experienced in these types of games and haven't been playing twitch shooters for at least a decade, you will NOT find this game easy.
Or, you might find it easy if your 14. But then your patience will run out very quickly and you will do something "stoopid". And then you will die. Over and over. ;)
Adding an option to incease (or disable) the frequency of mobs spawning with stars as a difficulty setting. That would be great as a win-win.
Also I would love if they added 3-Star and upwards creatures depending on how many bosses you defeated.
1. This game is very easy in single player, else there'd not be tons of videos on methods how to solo bosses, people doing passive runs and speed runs solo and more.
2. Deathquitos are only a problem for those not ready to venture in the plains.
3. Golems are only a problem if you're not ready to be in the snow biome.
4. Neither 2 nor 3 should 1 shot you unless you are not prepared to be in those biomes.
5. You loose only -temporarily- everything on you when you die. You can always better prepare and get your items back from your corpse that were lost. Again there are players who speed run and kill creatures with bonfires and campfires, die and just keep back at it.
All in all, I highly suggest for you to watch videos and guides especially ones with key words solo or speed or passive runs so you can see methods they employ.
Already easy.... I am 56..
Read guides, watch videos on how to play, read the forums etc.
When there are methods for example to literally kill bosses in seconds(not all mind you), it really puts that into context. I mean people kill the first boss naked with campfires even.
And there are plenty of over 50 folks who play by the way and your advice comes from one...
Thus age isn't the issue.
Its just no much "hand-holding" in this game, which I like...but the general difficulty for like combat is not too hard.
This game is not Nintendo hard. It just asks you to learn, and be judiciously cautious, and be prepared to be punched in the face a few times, and get back up and try different ways. It won't hold your hand, and a little resilience is essential, but succeeding at Valheim is really more about patience and thoughtfulness than brute clicking skill. I appreciate it for that.
Valheim was my first non tripleA mmo game. It was a really hard slog at first for the old and clueless but in the end, we old dogs can learn a few new tricks. It took me forever to figure out how to kill different enemies, and I soon came to the realization that as an older player it works best for me if I can be hyperaware of my surroundings so the instant I hear a golem emerging or troll grunting, or change in music I know there is danger ahead. Getting to a point of advantage has saved my bacon more times than I would care to admit Now I have five seeds, two current characters, all seeds with farms in the plains & large permabases in the meadows plus forward camps & portal hubs. Have soloed all bosses but Yagluth. Him I have done with friends and if I wasn't so lazy I would have soloed him too, no doubt.
One of those new tricks I learned is to not rush, be the best prepared you can be at all times. Completed about 15 caves recently so both my Vikings have fully upgraded new gear.
The only thing I don't do if I can help it is sailing. I just don't like it. Oh well. And I play totally vanilla.
So, this game is great. Just take your time, enjoy the journey, There are videos out there and helpful folks on this forum if you have questions. There have been a number of nerfs to the game since its start and solo is easier than even adding one more player, by about 20% iirc.
If you want to rant, cool. But if you want help with something we need to know specifics - how you are kitted out and what you have on as food in order for us to be helpful. Where you are in the game, since there is no real leveling other than moving to the next biome and getting better gear/wpns/food. In most cases folks are over their heads and unprepared, no comfort & at night. A seriously bad combo in most the biomes. And many times it is caused by sailing into the unknown. "Oh look, there's a pretty meadows. And I hear giggling. The natives must be happy to see me..."
Anyway, enjoy exploring, don't give up. There will come a time when you'll see a skeeto and just punch him a couple times for the fun of it.
The game would definitely be better with a way to select easy-normal-hard-epic
Devs said it is coming but not until Valheim is close to release, unfortunately.
I can't find one that does this, it would be limited in what it could change but surprised I haven't come across one. They all seem to be building related.
As for those saying blah blah blah I am great blah blah blah, you have no idea if he has bad arthritis or whatever, I am happy I still have pretty good twitch but that doesn't mean everyone who wants to play Valheim and should be able to enjoy it, has good health, eyes and what not. Options are always a good thing. Some want it easier, some want it harder (or much harder).
I'm way past 20, though Foxglovez has me beat by quite a bit. If you want to adjust the difficulty, you should look into mods. That's the only way to do that currently.
Valheim Plus is the mod I recommend the most because it has the most options. It needs to be customized from a text file, but that file is pretty good at telling you what each thing is for. Save a copy of the text file with a slightly different name before you muck around with it, so you can put it back if you make a mistake. It's a great toybox/toolbox that will give you a lot of nice improvements and let you adjust damage or just about anything else.
Both Nexus and Thunderstore websites are popular places to download mods. I use Nexus with the Vortex mod manager, though others around here will tell you that Thunderstore is better. With a mod manager, you don't have to put all the files in place yourself. It will do that for you. I go to Nexus, find a mod I like, then click the Vortex button. From Vortex I can turn the mod on or off. (Nexus video guide is here: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/videos/2)
Yes, it's something new to learn, but if you have a basic idea of what computer files are and where they go then you can do it. (Actually I've met a few 20-somethings who don't know computer basics because they spend more time on their phones than on PCs, and the latest operating systems are designed for people who don't know anything. Kids these days, lol.)
I agree with this 100%.
The majority of changes or tweaks I see people propose to this game can be solved by the use of already existing mods.
I mean there is no enemy where 'twitch' skills are needed... its more a get geared then 'pwn' enemies easily.
As said above, mods can adjust the mod frequency but it aint hard, and this from a fool who bought all 3 Dark Soul games, and haven't finished one :P
