Finding Silver ...

Hi, Having real trouble trying to find silver in snow biome!
Have the wishbone of course which was activated twice, dug 2 huge holes only to find a skeleton both times !! Other smaller biomes have nothing!!
Why is it so damn hard to find ??? Is there any signs or clues as to where you can find it other than the 'wishbone' ?

The mountain you're on might be too small. Its the bigger mountains that are the real biome. Certain things start spawning after a certain height, including silver.

Silver is usually, though admittedly not always, up high where the drakes spawn with eggs. Shaped like a Y and you dig it like you would copper.

We went high up where the drakes were only to find the skeletons. Maybe just unlucky no silver then. Or maybe we didnt dig far out enough.

I've heard, but can't confirm that if you start finding Obsidian deposits along the mountain, it's large enough of a biome that silver can spawn. The range of wishbone itself is small, IMO it's around a workbench's area of effect. Be prepared to literally comb the biome.

Might not be high enough, drakes and wolves can spawn on lower levels as I recall. You'll want to find a really big mountain range with golems, nests, stone structures and all that good stuff. Silver doesn't seem to be few and far in between up there either, just walk around for a bit and start digging when the wishbone is beeping as fast as you can get it to.

I noticed on my map anyway the silver seems to be in clumps - like 2 or 3 close on one mountain, but then big distances to the next silver. As others have said it is normally near the nests.

Midway up mountains between where obsidian starts and the top. Also fairly common in large open valleys up high, nearish the little corewood huts w their resident golems. After a while you begin to see a similarity in the topography where they are, and yes, sometimes several near one another. Most I ever had were three intertwined with one another. Wish I had taken a screenshot as it was pretty cool.
You can just pound the ground with a sledge and when it registers "too hard" you are also near or on top of a vein. One way to know you are near a burial rather than a vein are little upright stones, usually 3 where you are digging. I wish they gave off a different sound than a vein.

Thanks for replies ... finally found silver at a really big biome not far from my base actually. And yes it was on the really high mountain near a castle ruin & where the drakes & golems were. The silver covered a really huge area too ... so will go bk there & recover some more hopefully ... providing i don't die again !!!!

Be careful of wolfpacks. Especially at night there is high chance of one of them is 2 or 3 star wolf. Pretty tough boys. Best is to range them with bow.

What I do is i make a Stagbreaker and just smack around areas in the snow biome with a frost pot on and while you smack around, you might find something that says "Too hard!"
Normally its silver, but it can be bugged obsidian.
Has done wonders for me in the past. Just build a campfire near you and do a makeshift roof cuz youre going to be there a while.

I can confirm it - with my first character i did it (because Bonemass wass to hard for me that time)

The wishbone is a bit tricky to use. When it pings slowly, it doesn't mean that you already found silver underneath you, you're just close. Start moving in any direction (slowly!) until the ping gets faster. It needs to be pretty fast and the pitch fairly high, before you can start digging. You will get a feel for it.

And yes, sometimes you have to dig pretty deep. ;)
