Mountain Biome
I don't know what anybody elses mountain biome looks like, but all of mine are terrible. Despite being extremely tiny, they're also clownishly packed full of wolves and drakes. Making the experience less than entertaining. Then to top it off, it's extremely difficult to navigate in any meaningful way as I am constantly sprinting against the sliding mechanic to make my way higher into the biome.
All in all, if this is common for the mountain regions then it leaves much to be desired from a developmental standpoint. It's already artificially walled off and inaccessible without the correct mead but to compound that with the fact that the terrain is such a pain in the ass to traverse is a bad look. It'd be one thing if I didn't HAVE to go there... but I NEED to go there. Then I'm forced to start playing goat simulator and fight an absurd amount of wolves and drakes along the way. That's genuinely bad gameplay and bad game design. IDK maybe it's just my world. Anybody else have decent mountain biomes that aren't absurd?

PS. Why does a 1 star wolf hit even harder than Fenring AND deal 100% stagger even if parried?

I guess every biome is supposed to be more difficult than the previous one. I didnt spend much time up there. Found enough silver for my needs at the edges of mountains and killed the boss. Only after i finished plains biome and upgraded final tier of armor and equipment i got back to enjoy the mountains… now wolves hit for minor dmg and i can block even 2star wolf. Even stone golems are fun to fight. And stamina food from plains biome helps a lot.

Don't bother with Onion Soup, it's both inferior to Eyescream and requires 3 times the amount of Onions to sustain.

Only problem with Eyescream is that it requires 3 Greydwarf Eyes and 1 Freeze Gland.. both items having alternate purposes that are rather important. (Portals and Frost Arrows respectively.)
Quite correct on all counts. But if you have gamed the system as I have, and gotten onion seeds about the same time as carrot by taking a little lucky covert trip to the mountains, you will have onions shooting out your ears.

And with there being only 1 health point and 5 stamina points difference onion soup is not that "inferior" to Eyescream, and farming glands is not that hard, but a bit tiresome...
I found keep using turnip stew in the mountain because is the last stamina food that gives 2hp regeneration , after that all gives 1 , in plains is good to change to bread or blood pudding because the high stamina really notices

Yeah, it's mountain goat simulator. I had expected some kind of warm armor that would let me survive the cold indefinitely; disappointing that you have to rely on timed potions, so you can never relax, always having to watch the clock. When I got the eyescream recipe though, I actually wanted the drakes for their freeze glands. That plus the obsidian is the main reason I still go there.

After gearing up some from plains, I got a bit cocky and let night fall while I was in the mountains... a 2-star wolf killed me in three hits. Ugh... tried a nighttime sojourn again, and this time seemingly a whole pack of like five wolves jumped me, plus a fenring. I held it off for a short while, but constant shield blocking means you never have stamina, so nothing much I could do. Died again. Mountains at night is still no joke!
Keep playing and not give missinformation please , there you have wolf armor wolf cape and lox cape that gives you cold inmunity ( if you are not wet )

To parry in mountains you need iron buckler or silver shield and eat 2 hp foods , wolf hits hard and fast but die pretty easy because its the mob that gets the highest stun in the game ( 3 segs ) when you damage the over 50% of their hp or stagg them , a 2* wolfs hits for 140 and have 240 hp , the fenrling is pretty lame to compare because its a very brute mob ( hitting very slowly and always fails )

It seems like the cold clothing items also stop cold and wet even in the mountains.

Unless that last save I played was really bugged out.... once I got the wolf chest I was immune to cold in the mountains even wet. Not sure if that changed with/post H&H though.

That said I really love the mountain biome personally. The big open vistas, especially after the closed in swamp biome, feels really refreshing.

Maybe it depends on the seed, but it seems most mountain biomes I've discovered are usually little more than a snowy peak surrounded by Black Forest.

But when I find a full-on mountain range, it is a real treat, especially when there are POI's at the summits. I can't wait to see what the devs do with caves in the mountains (Fenring dens?)!

I have a nice mountain that isn't much tougher terrain then black forest. I am able to get up on slopes in 1 burst without resting. They are not too big in mine, the slopes I mean. And then I hit a ledge again with a bit of trail. Just scouting it so far as I am very early iron. Got some Obsidian to get upgrade 5 for workbench.

Wolf pelt, trophy, meat and a fang. Just need silver to get the wolf cape I think. My Mountain is interrupted by black forest. There is a very small patch of mountain south of the bigger one. It had no wildlife in it. Not as high cause its small. I hope I could find silver there cause nothing would interrupt me. Doubtful though case its not too high there.

I think you have to scout to find 4 or 5 mountain biomes and pick the most reasonable one.

lol i just skipped the mountains.
Fought Moder and went to the plains.

I don't have any practical problems navigating mountains but boy it feels dumb the way you slide down shallow slopes like you're on wheels. I'd much prefer a system that let you walk up them with an equivalent stamina cost to sprint bunny hopping.

I've seen plenty of large ones.

I'm currently mining silver in one big Mountain a stone's throw from the world spawn and my base, and there are several other sizeable Mountain biomes I can reach without a boat. One of them even has Moder.

The world generation is currently using a fixed seed for mountains and continents, so the location of every possible large mountain has been mapped. (Spoilers, your entire world layout) https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/441573352197324801/909151366495240252/SPOILER_Complete_Map.png

I like to chime in..... I got a FANTASTIC seed which has the second highest mountain in the game, Hook. TRUST ME when I say, this mountain IS NOT SMALL!!!!!! It's massive! It's got 2 massive peaks that can be lowered, and if you raise the sides you can have a great base!
Another thing that make this mountain really cool is the fact that near the base of the mountain there is a narrow inlet connecting to a small river which allows for some crazy bridge building!!!

I highly recommend it.

Hook Mountain is Just below the equator on the very left edge of the map

Mountains are not that hard to explore. Need a potion, then upgrade to a cape from killing wolves. Make a spare for when you die.
Build a base camp portal from where you want to start in the adjoining biome.

Hear a wolf howl? Stop, gather stamina and defend.

Use the map wisely, actually look at it. The routes and the steep sides are shown on the map in colour. Black too steep, white, not so much.

Use a pick to make a path along the slightly awkward parts, it doesnt take much effort. Look in the direction you want to go, hack, move, hack, move. And zig-zag up the super high sides if you must. Finally mark your route on the map.

Build a portal and camp at the top, sit and have a brew.
