Missed arrows don't spook their target always. Quite the contrary (perhaps depending on the distance to shooter). It's something to be corrected, imho.
With a crude bow, you often get only one chance to hit them by day. By night or rainy weather, it's free to kill. With fine bow, I often have a second chance by day, as it seems.
The bow is good. Every one of them. I have not seen a real difference in mechanic between any of the bows, only the dmg.
I asking for arrows that can shoot a bit straighter with arrows at a closer range or standing above a target, not having deal with arc for every shot. If you aim for a target at close range. You aim for the middle and the shot is off, then aim is off. I used a bow in real life, guns too. Had to learn to scope weapons in. Adjust everything to hit on target. I have other games with main weapons are bows, they do not have arc issues at close range. Long distance attack has arc and adjust aim. Stupid to aim at seagull in the game at it's head and the arrow lands in front on the ground at close range before it flies off. Or the other point is standing above your target and missing shooting down. There should be no arc shooting down. If aim for the feet, you should hit their feet. If you aim for the head, you should hit the head and not behind it. When you shoot a bow the arrow travels in straight line and will slowly fall over distance until hit an object or crash into the ground.
I am using fine bow (upgrade to level 4) with fire arrows. All shots were full charge up before firing the arrow.
For the enemies, I went to run behind a tree/rock and got hit, second shot got hit behind the tree/rock but my shot was blocked. For the trolls. they be moving in straight line away from me. I fire my arrow, the troll turns side wise to miss the arrow then back in the straight line. The happens most trolls. That shows they are dodging at the last second before getting hit. So nice they have eyes in the back of their head to see me firing arrows.
Like I said other games that use range weapons (bows) I do not always hit my target but if I aim for a body part, I hit it unless long distance if i get a lucky shot. For power shot before firing for max damage and to improve of hitting and still miss is sad.
Go in real life, get a bow measure out distance, then hit your targets. You will see there is no arc at close range, full draw. At distance, you have to shoot higher to hit with arc. My complaint is close range and distance is lining up every for arc. Unless wind is a factor and should be explain then. If I aim at close range, I should hit were I aim at, not miss.
Shooting directly above you or below you is a bit wonkey for sure... but can I ask what level bow you are using? Because once you get to the Draugr Fang (and to a lesser extent the huntsman) the Arc seems very reasonable/realistic to me.
I finally found 1 sunken crypt after few swamps I had to run through. Also have to make a base that is enemy proof so it will not be destroyed by grey dwarves, trolls, or undead invasions. ETA for travel by second boat to main base is around 30 mins one way in real time minus is the wind against me or run into sea monsters or stormy weather.
I have blacken scraps already just have not unlocked blast furnace to make bars. Found Obsidian cannot mine it with bronze pick.
Trying to pick furlings off but missing a lot on watch towers. Killed about 10 so far and 4 flying bugs.
Bronze arrows are too slow to make from mining copper and tin to make bars.
@wizard_of_woz are you telling me during the Medieval days that British longbows were crap in hitting targets when in fact, they were one of the fear weapons for range and hitting power. Took stone or metal arrow to go through metal armor like butter.
This is real, plastic straws sticking in a metal pole from a tornado.
I guess at this point I will say I disagree with you on all matters except when shooting straight up or down.
I can assure you once you've maxed out bow skill, and the best bow in the game you'll not complain about anything bow related.
Edit: Are you pulling back all the way?
Hunting the birds during rain works well, they stay on the ground and in one place unless you get too close.
I've also used the Harpoon on birds to get feathers. Don't use up arrows that way.
