You can also just sail back to the location. Graves float.

There is a body retrieval group. They come with you, kick the crap out of whatever killed you and you get your stuff back. Check the groups section i believe. Or someone here can come aid you in your quest to retrieve body and gear.

Learn the conditions which spawn a Sea Serpent..... the factors are generally Stormy weather, Rain, Night (although it can sometimes spawn in daytime from personal experience) and I have a theory that it can sense the wind direction and it likes to attack boats downwind (IE making it harder for them to get away).

But unlike other games your corpse will stay there and since Hearth and Homes launched, I believe old death markers remain in place so its possible to go back later and pick it up.

But usually you will see the Serpent swimming upto you, this is your time to check the wind direction and start turning (land mass permitting) and get outta there at full sail, if you wait for it to raise its head out the water and roar..... you are probably too late to out run it unless there is land very nearby

If you are several people just kill the serpent. It's not that difficult. You could also use two boats and have one act as a decoy

Dont use the Raft for anything ...the Karve is okish but the longboats turns sea serpents from predators into prey ...i actually want more sea serpents than i can get ;) ...Use Bows and Frostarrows ...especially the frost arros work well on them. Good luck Hunting your new sea serpent food/stew.
Karve survives Serpents decently enough. If you're fast enough you can set your sail path to intersect your floating grave then just stand up in the boat while the sails are up, and grab it while you pass it. Even if the Serpent follows you, downwind with the Karve you should be able to escape it if you head towards land immediately - Karve takes quite a few hits before going down. The serpent will follow you pretty close to the land but will generally just swim away once you park the boat and jump out - and if it doesn't or gets kind of stuck on the land, you may even get a free serpent kill if you're tactical.

Also, ALWAYS carry 10 wood with you so you can put down a bench as soon as you exit the boat and get onto shore. That way, you can immediately repair your boat anywhere there's land, then when you leave again, just destroy the workbench for the 10 wood and carry on.

I've never had a Karve hit by a serpent, you just have to sail with the wind.

I died twice to a sea serpent while rafting across narrow ocean strips (so far).

First time, I could approach the gravebuoy by paddling backwards, ready to flee full sail in the wind. I couldn't retrieve my corpse, but I could lure the serpent to the coast. I launched a few arrows, and waited for it to return to its spawn location, which allowed me to finally get to the buoy (still seing the beast in the distance).

Second time, I hadn't enough material to build another raft, but I had anticipated better and my gravebuoy was closer to the coast. I could swim to the buoy, take things from it, and sink closer to the coast, at a distance allowing a go-and-return swim.

In both cases, I died several times while adjusting the "strategy", sometimes with another death penalties, sometimes without.

Raft is nice for building water based projects and fishing :)

If you can make them, frost arrows are the weapon of choice against Sea Serpents. Not only do they have weakness to frost, it slows them down. So if you want to kill that serpent, it is not that hard, or shoot a frost arrow at it, and when it hits, sail away as fast as you can with the wind at your back. I know what you mean, "serpent waits there just next to my corpse ..." I have had that happen. Lucky for me I was playing with my son, and he sailed right up to my corpse, and I recovered all my stuff while leaning over the side of the bulkhead. I have seen a few serpents, and marked them on my map, and they were still in the exact same location many days (irl) later.

I always keep a chest at the foot of my main spawn bed, with a second set of armour and weapons, with 1 of each food item I am currently using. Keep in mind also, there are no penalties for dying a 2nd time, if you are under "corpse run" conditions, so it pays to try and reclaim ones items as fast as possible, even if it takes multiple attempts.

In steam library right click valheim, properties, and in launch options write "-console" without the apostrophe. Play Valheim and play the world where you died. Press "F5" to open console. Write "debugmode" without the apostrophe. You can then press "Z" to fly around. With that you can fly around and move fast. Find where you died / last tombstone and retrieve your item.
