High Stamina needed
Mostly only find silver in big mountain ranges.
- Take a bow and plenty of arrows with you.
- Pay attention to your surroundings, constantly. Death can be very swift for unwary vikings.
- Wolves can and will stun-lock you if you're not careful.
- Don't mess with golems unless you have the Bonemass power ready to use.
- Don't fall off high places. :P
PS. Do NOT go at night unless you seek death. Starred wolves only come out at night, and werewolves too.
Don't rush in. Build walls around mining location, saves you when wolves come. Especially when you are being hunted. Bring freeze potions like Trakehner said, high stamina foods. Attacking golems is not recommended, if you must the pick does the most damage. I cheese them myself with obsidian arrows. This is one biome that made my palms sweaty. Head on a swivel while you explore the mountains.
Check chests for new resources. Boss markers typically found in stone towers.
If you find stone golems around there is a high probability of silver being in the area.. for sure at that altitude and above.
Don't be afraid to dig around. They put extra silver veins in since the wishbone will not find all of them. Some may be too close to the surface and considered not buried or hidden so it won't ping the wishbone.
When sliding down, watch out for little bumps or you'll end up doing a high dive that'll make an Olympic diver proud.
My wishbone pings even if the vain is above ground. Pings so much in themountains anymore i have to remove it and put the belt on lol.
Drake eggs, usually mines right by them as well.
IDK .. frankly I don't even bother with bonemass until I am ready to kill Yag. I got pretty used to finding silver just by looking at the lay of the land. So in the past ten worlds or so I have played though I haven't used the wishbone. But that isn't something a new person playing the first time could do.
Before H&H i could walk around any mountain and damn thing wouldn't ping. Thought there was just no silver... go onto those same mountains after the H&H update and there is tones of ore. Could have been broken at the time. Just glad it works now. Pings retarded in swamps since there is piles under the ground.. I'm at Yagluth now...milking it. Won't be much left to do once i defeat him.. might not do so until the next biome.
A bow with at least 200 fire arrows to shut down drakes
Minimum fully upgraded bronze armor. Anything less in armor rating will hurt.
Shield and 1h weapon.
2H hammer (you go on high ground when chased by to many wolfs, then smash)
3 frost resistance potions (if you dont have a cloack yet)
Wishbone (you can kinda skip it if you know locations where to hammer the ground to spot a silver with too hard text -- usualy near building or golems)
1x best hp food you can create and 2x stamina.
1.st boss buff (makes it easier to climb)
Healing and stamina poitions 5x each
Belt from merchant (silver is realy heavy)
Tips:
You can avoid wolfs if you jump on a rock they cant reach. Its a good strategy as more than 2 are to much to block and counter.
Golems can be ignored, but i realy recomend using wood arrows on them if you have no armor. Takes a while, but its safe. Once you get a good armor you can counter them and middle mouse click for a lot of damage.
Any mining you do (sound), will trigger the drakes. If possible, try to shut them down before they hear you.
Its a good idea to also carry some wood with you, so you can fix building on top and maybe place a portal there. If showstorm or night happens, you have a fast exit out of mountain.
Tricks:
You can make a woodwall araund the area you want to mine and just dig down. Just be sure you put a roof on top. This will stop most of mobs from getting to you when mining.
Placing multiple workbenches will make Ai attack it before you. Wich works as early warning.
If you have a hard time climbing, you can pick the front of you and jump on it to get stamina back (note that can trigger drakes).
A snowstorm will not shut down your fire if its protected by 4 walls. You could use the swamp version, but generaly cores are better to be used on portals.
If you have cart materials with you, you can load it with silver and just push it down.
This will save you time running down and up. Cart will get destroyed on the way down for sure, but you only have to loot the silver boxes. Be sure you have workbenches near so you can re-build the cart, restock it with silver and push it down again.
Corpserun --- be sure you have a portal close, extra frost resistance potions and food.
Ignore all the mobs that chase you and run to your body.
Meh, even if you only find 3 you can multiply that quickly enough. But yes don't miss any. They are found in chests.
Proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance.
