Wtf is up with this Abomination?
I saw a few vids on my youtube feed talking about it but I didnt watch them. I get into the game and Im headed to scout out the area where Bonemass is. It's a swamp island with a small plains area on the eastern tip.

I get there cruising the coast by the swamp and I find a wooden structure up on some stilts and I think, sweet I'll put a portal there. So park my karve along the shore and hop out ready to put a workbench down.

All the sudden it looks like the freakin forest is moving and this giant fking spider tree thing is like 10 meters away. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! I jump over to my boat and jump on. Turning that ♥♥♥♥♥ around asap and hightailing it outta there.

My question is how in the fk am i supposed to kill that huge thing?

I had Iron armor and a wolf cape (my best gear is in the plains I think. I might have rage quit after getting killed by gobbos, woke up totally naked) but I made a black metal ax before I even went to the swamp. Hardly scratched the abomination. I did eventually recover my gear and kill the two abominations plus friends but it was an hours long ordeal. I am glad they have added some difficulty to the game, it was kind of WAY too easy before, this is seems like an overcompensation.
That's the core of the problem, at least for my playing style. Pre-H&H was indeed far too easy. The bosses fell easily against often barely upgraded equipment. Now we have 10-15 "Bosses" per iron farming session. The waste of time was so intense that I used devcommands. Being forced to go that path is destroying all game fun. After u get the material for the root armor the abominations even level up in being annoying.
The swamp was pre H&H already the hardest biom to start in. Nowhere else I was killed so often, once even in the boat before getting on land. I have a 75-80% focus on building in the game so I get double pissed according to the amount of iron I'll need.

Extra damage after a successful parry is how you kill it very fast.

Having no trouble to down it with the best gear (using a black metal knife), i wanted to test it out with appropriate low tier gear -> switched to a bronze buckler, troll armor set and abyssal razor (all of the said gear max leveled) + as food: sausages, deer stew and carrot soup. Then proceeded to find and kill about 10 abominations one after the other just by parrying with the buckler then attacking with abyssal razor (my knife skill is lvl 60, block skill 28); it took me 2 parries + attack phases on average (roughly 20-30 seconds per actual fight without the "emerge" or "sneaking" phase). When i could sneak leap it at begin of the fight, one parry + attack phase afterwards was enough.

With roughly 130-140 hp and a troll armor set (lvl 4), the abomination needs at least about 4-5 hits (in quick succession) to kill you (just a guess, since i never mistimed more than 2 parries in a row during a fight and was well above 50 % HP all the time), so it's not like it can one or two tap the player. Biggest threat comes from other mobs who might come over to the fight.

A couple tips:
- when it emerges you can try to duck and proceed to sneak attack it first
- if the terrain is bad (uneven/too much water), immediately look for a better ground while the (quite long) emerging animation takes place
- better to aim the attacks at one of its legs, cuz the "middle stump" is kinda high and the swings could easily go underneath it

I've had good luck with fire arrows, but taking one on with an ax sounds like fun.

If you have a biome where it is a meadow next to a swamp you end up finding undead creatures spawning and chasing animals and boars and such all over, you find loot everywhere and sometimes for some odd reason the simulation of spawning mobs happens insanely fast in such a mix of environment.

One thing about it. I used to build wood pathways to haul out ore. They helped with orientation also when it got so dark and every direction looks the same. Abominations wreck wooden pathways fast.

I first was bronze when I faced them and no sword. Since made silver sword, silver shield and armor. Now they are easy but still have some kick. IN fact since I upgrade all my stuff, I rarely see them now. I think they know better then to confront my toon.

It almost makes sense to go to Mountains first and mostly skip iron till padded armor. At least just to get maybe 1 piece of silver armor and the 1st level of a sword. Toss up maybe. Wolves can be taken out with polearm before they get to you if its timer right. Golems sometimes get distracted by drakes. at any rate all it takes is to clear 1 golem to clear the way to get enough silver for a couple items.

I actually totally agree except you need wishbone from bonemass to get silver.
No you dont lolz. Silver is literally as easy as walking around mountains at obsidian level, you'll see silver veins protruding out of the mountain side which you really don't need the wishbone for. My last server I had full max tier wolf gear before I even fought bonemass which requires a lot of silver.

Learn to parry. It changes everything. Tough fights become pretty easy.

You can kill this mob naked with 3 items. Build hammer, wood and stone.

All you have to do it to bait it out of swamp and then spam fireplaces under it. The constant fire damage will kill it over time. And its very slow, so easy to run away from it.

Heck you can use a torch and try to get a hit, when its distraced by something.

Frost resist = no freezing dmg at all. Poison resist = less damage but you still take damage. [...] Not to mention the water everywhere in the swamp makes getting distance between you and your attackers difficult and if you splash into water you auto un-equip your weapons/shield.
Enemies that attack you with frost damage can still damage you, frost resistance means 50% less damage, same as poison resistance means 50% less damage from poison.

As for the water, that's another entire environmental problem that can be solved with hoes. Make paths!
