If you kill the elder and mount his head on the sacrificial stone, you can get his power which will let you chop down a tree in about 2-3 hits with a metal axe.

If you want to cut trees faster just know what axe to use and when.

When you are in a big wooded area with lots of dense trees. And use your 2 handed axe. Your swings become really really wide and can hit a lot of trees at the same time doing three times the work of the regular axe. Specially when 3 trees fall in the dark forest biomes that they often bring down much more.

Meaning that you just saved your self a lot of time, And saved a lot of durability on your axe as your trees did allthe work.

"Efficiency FTW"

And elder too as mentioned above. For when you just want fast wood to make defenses or other high expense craft jobs.

One more little tip to use with these.... Start at the top of a slope if you can. The falling trees will hit others and hopefully start a "Lumber-lanche."

Find a troll, lead him near trees, reap the benefits. This is how you get core wood from the beginning.

you can get core wood with a stone/flint axe. a lot easier (and safer lol) than pestering a troll...

Those small lean-to placements in the meadows have core wood as well... all you need is a workbench to dismantle them. Drauger villages have them too but I wouldn't go too near those early on.

Plant your own trees using the cultivator. Once grown, go into the middle of the orchard and start giving a few whacks to the middle trees. They'll fall on the ones surrounding them, knocking them down. You'll also go faster if you upgrade your ax. Finally, destroy any shipwrecks you find along the shore to get fine wood.

And of course, use a Lox pack.
