I personally dont understand the restriction. Maybe they want you to explore? Maybe its based on viking lore with metal properties? I dont know but the fact we have portals makes no sense to me that some things can come through and others cannot. Being able to keep all of my materials in one place doesnt remove any important gameplay from my experience It just cuts down on the drudgery of busy work which is not something I enjoy in my gaming experience.
Of course you have to bring the copper with you by boat to mining area (if its on a different continent which I figure is what we are talking about.
It's called world hopping
Thats a fair take. My only push back is that forges require upgrades to make certain things. I found myself with materials spread over 4 different locations using the approach your mentioned. It works, but then I had materials sitting doing nothing while I tried to build the improvements in every locations which DOES add up over time.

It's not more cheating than world hopping, it's less time consuming and less immersion breaking. I also see this artifical restriction as a huge design flaw adding nothing to the game but annoyance and tediousness. And it does not make sense that an iron bar is restricted but forged into sword there is no problem at all carrying through a gate. This illogicality makes no sense and is just destroying my desire to play the game. Hence I use the mod (and some others) to make the game "playable" for me. So do yourself a favor and use this instead of your method. It makes things so much easier and is one point less to worry about.
I believe they have the portal restrictions to make sailing a larger aspect of the game. If you can tp everywhere eventually you will just ignore the ocean and never sail unless you're hunting for serpent meat.
Again it would be 1000000x quicker to just us console commands or mods lol.
I've been curious since I've begun playing this game why they didn't give us a checkbox to simply enable the teleportation of ores as an option for those of us who want to do it.
Yep. And ores are a finite resource: if you play a long time on a server, EVENTUALLY ores in a region will dry up and you will HAVE to go looking for more.
