Spice Rack always invalid placement?

Can you not use the Spice Rack with an inset like this?

The spice rack is annoying to place. When I first started I ended up having to completely redesign that half of my kitchen to make it work. My kitchen had originally looked like this:

but I had to take out the stone on either side to widen it and then still had to put the rack basically inside my chimney on the edge of a beam for it to both place AND be close enough to the cauldron to actually apply the upgrade. Which for whatever reason, I never thought to take a picture of after the remodel.

I just placed the spice rack on the wooden beam slightly in front/above the cauldron like this:

I'm not sure what your cauldron arrangement is based on that wording -- I'm not familiar with what is popular or common when it comes to builds -- but I can say I also had a lot of trouble with my spice rack the other day.

My cauldron is positioned in the middle of the room, and the spice rack refused to accept numerous spots that I tried. In the end I built a 2-meter vertical pole and attached a 1-meter horizontal one to it, then put the spice rack on the horizontal piece. Looks a bit silly but it works.

Yeah, I noticed it has to be placed on the roof and not on a wall as you would expect (like most other Tool Upgrades). First time playing H&H so I was just new to this.

What you can alternatively do, is use a half horizontal beam protruding from the wall and hang the spice rack from there. So it will look like it's just off the wall.

That is what I did. That Spice rack can be an annoyance at times.

Realising it needed a ceiling to "hang" from took a few minutes,

Here's how I opted to do it in the end

Just a shame that the placement range isn't bigger, really cramps your style with what size space you can get it to function in. Seems smaller than the other benches.

Instead I've found since H+H the forge upgrades are real tough to place... got a load of empty space they just refuse to fit in.
Cant work it out unless they need more space above than I'm allowing.

Love that cute lil oven, didn't realise I could build that close to them. Nice work

Here is how I hanged the spice rack. Out of the way and very close to cooking pot.

it would be nice if they could connect from longer distance in general.
I read no previous post: Yes, it's a ♥♥♥♥♥ to place until you get the "vibe". I feel your twitch out. I suggest you just select it (not while seriously trying to place it) and check out out where it will hang.
