How to fight a wolf?
I spawned a wolf with the console to see how they attack, after getting solo killed by one.

With iron armor lvl 3 and iron buckler, one hit from the wolf is enough to stagger me if I block. I suck at parrying.

So if ONE wolf staggers me THROUGH IRON BUCKLER with just ONE ATTACK. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GO INTO THE MOUNTAINS? I find absurd that one wolf can do that much damage.

Please tell me what is the correct weapon/armor/shield to fight a wolf without having to parry.

Why are you using a buckler if you suck at parrying?
Get a tower shield.

Also practice parrying on easier monsters, it's worth learning. It makes the game 2 times easier.

Huntsman bow at distance... if you get into melee.... shield and atgeir

If you skills are < 50... go fight some more.

Don't use bucklers or round shields if you suck at parrying. If you insist on refusing to learn how to parry, stick with tower shields.

But, seriously, go play with some draugrs or greydwarfs and learn how to parry. It's easy once you get the timing down, and the parry stagger is a ridiculously powerful tool that will allow you to easily kill basically anything in the game (except for maybe tar monsters and loxes). You'll need it once you start fighting fulings.

You can parry loxes, easily. Their moveset is a bit vague, but once you get it down it's ez.

If you suck at parrying the best method I have found to learn it on a new mob is make the best tower shield you can and use it to analyze the attack animation for that mob. Hold up the tower to block and let it attack you and find out the exact moment you get hit in the animation and learn to parry just before it lands on you.

Using a shield you can parry with this method lets more damage pass through and if you actually try to parry and do it early or late you get the full force and run the risk of dying faster (due to your suckage at parrying, lol)

like many suggested - wearing a good armor is useless when a "weakling" wears it
the key to make a good use of the armor is the eat the best food available atm
with low HP (like one has not eaten anything) most of the swamp creatures may beat one to death with ease

for me wearing a towershield and the best sword or club works great against a wolf
or for the agressive playstyle - the atgeir can be devastating (but no shield then)

Yeah parrying loxes depends more on your food and gear loadout than anything due to how hard they hit, which is why I said maybe. I wouldn't recommend someone like OP giving it a shot until they're more comfortable with parrying in general.

Imho I hope they will change the hitboxes at some time.. it's not only a problem in the mountains. It's literally everywhere where it isn't flat. It is my main flaw of the game right now besides random mobs attacking my boot chilling in the docks regardless what or how I build there.

The is a mod that unlocks the up/down axis for melee attacks. Slope Hit Reg fix is the name I believe. Surprised we need a mod to be able to control our attacks.

Iron Atgeir secondary attack can handle an attack of many wolves at once.

Yup. Atgeir master race. Also, forget parrying, learn to roll. Rolling in Valheim has some many I-frames, time it right and you can roll out of any attack and follow up with one of your own.

And for gods sake get the wolf on the same level as you or he will be able to hit you and you will keep on missing him. Get to flat ground area if you hear him coming or it will be a short fight.

there was/is a hitbox unlocked mod on nexus
the devs are pretty dumb for not doing this already

Block with shield, strike with axe... while it is in its stun animation. Simple.

So many of you are over thinking this.

Oh and ShaftAlmighty, nice blatant racism.

Or there's this mod:
Ursprungligen skrivet av Better Combat Fix:
Makes you hit every enemy, with every hit.

When I first started to play Valheim, I got annoyed that I couldn't hit enemies that were above me. The game felt kinda broken, but luckily, someone released a mod to fix this. Being able to damage creatures when I clearly hit the ground below them, I had a lot of fun in Valheim again.

But soon enough, I got annoyed that creatures could move behind me, where I couldn't hit them. IronGate honestly expects me, to be on the correct height level AND face my target to be able to hit it?! What nonsense! So I installed some mods that let me do area of effect attacks around my character. Nice, now we are having fun!

But shortly after that, a new issue started to surface. One that didn't have a mod to fix it for me: The range. Apparently, I am expected to be in weapon range of the target I want to hit. That was the last straw.

So, here is the fix for all of those broken mechanics in the base game.

why did you get the buckler if you suck on parrying? banded shield is mutch better for blocking and you can parry if you want. and have good hp food when you enter a new biome helps to survive untill you get better gear, then its better to go with balance on hp and stamina. and use bonemass buff
