I made my plains farm right on the edge of the biome and I don't think I've had a single plains monster come mess with it. I didn't even build anything, just tilled the area, planted flax and left.
If you see it on the map it's usually there but if its a measley one pixel in size, the amount of land then for you to use for farming upon is going to be extremely small and not going to meaningfully be helpful.
I suggest finding a map with a bit larger set of pixels of plains for your purposes.
As for making it safe, plains mobs wont spawn if you pepper the area with workbenches etc of course.
Also that dot is right on the coast as well and may be partially submerged given its small size.
I've a seed with a decent sized plains sliver nestled on the slope of a mountain biome and that of a black forest one. It had mobs spawning at first but once I teraformed the slope to be more flat(2 terraced) and put many benches and structures around/in the spot, I've not had any mobs spawning for hundreds of days there and I've space enough for hundreds of crops to grow if I so choose.
