Silver shield
Ok, I now have the option to replace my level 3 iron-bound shield with a level 1 silver shield.

Is it worth it? Can I block stone golem attacks with it? My gear currently is:
Lvl 4 Iron helmet
Lvl 2 Wolf-thingy silver hauberk
Lvl 4 Iron greaves

Food is now sausages or wolf skewer, eyescream, wolf jerky.

Is it worth to replace the shield or should I go for something else? I use predominantly shield and one hand weapon, next bow. I try to stay away from two-handed weapons, since their block is not as good as a shield.

Open to all suggestions, thanks, people! :)

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by iron-bound shield, but if you're referring to the Iron Buckler then a Silver Shield is a major upgrade. The lowest end Silver shield is also better than the highest end Banded shield.

Can you block a golem attack though, that's the question. To which the answer is yes, but I do think some damage will still bleed through.

This is steering you pretty far away from your original question, but stone golems are not fond of pickaxes. Something to consider perhaps :)

My apologies, I ment the iron-banded shield. Not the buckler. I actually like the pickaxe suggestion, and probably will give that a go.

Ok, I probably will try the silver shield as well. I'll do a save copy of my Valheim folder and when the shield isn't worth it, I'll just revert to my previous copy.

Thanks everybody for helping! :)

Iron mace is faster and more efficient against a stone golem than a pickaxe. You can hit it faster, not miss, and still use your shield to block

That's what I thought as well... I'll give it a try anyway. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. ;)

Sooo... silver shield lvl 2 is no dice. It's not working. Even dodging doesn't work a lot of times, as the reach of the golem is long enough that it gets you anyway.

Have to find other ways. Or I have to throw away my iron armor... :P

the pick is perfect. if you miss a few times, you dig a hole that it can't get out of and you can just leave it there. If you hit, it dies. Win-win :P

Iron armor can't keep up with the mountains. Start hunting silver nodes, it's very satisfying to dig under and make them crumble all at once. A single boat ride will have more than enough for 2 players to gear out.

One of the benefits of digging deep is to trap golems. There is a spawn limit so if the golem is stuck, no more will spawn around.

Bonemass power is the get out of jail free card. When things look dire, pop the skill and power through.

Yeah, right. Wrong person you addressed this, though...

@Bobucles:
I already have a (now) lvl 3 Wolf chest armor, so I'm aware that iron's probably no longer gonna cut it. ;)
I now leveled my silver shield to level three. Let's how that is going to work.

Iron is not bad and you can use it in mountains, but silver is better. If you have surplus of silver, i say go for it.
And for pickaxes and golems… hmmm it’s like an urban legend. It does yellow dmg, meaning it’s super effective. But as Scrumpy said, use mace. It’s easier and you can use shield with it to parry for higher dmg. With decent clubs skill points you can kill golems with 3 middle click heavy attacks. I even managed to 2 hit kill a stone golem but my clubs skill was in 70’s and I was using porcupine which does a slightly higher dmg than iron mace

@Veseljko:
Thanks! That's good advice. I never even thought about the secondary attack for the mace. Let me give that one a try (together with my better shield).

Once a golem is trapped, there's nothing wrong with having a little bow practice. Combat XP in valheim is per successful action, and golems take a LOT of wood arrows to knock down. Get up real close and launch wave after wave of low power arrows at it.

Sooo... I found out a lvl 3 Silver shield is mostly capable of blocking the golems attacks. I still take damage, but it is less. The second attack of the mace is also pretty good, but unfortunately has a large windup. I often get hit by the golem, because my timing (as usual) is pretty off. ;)

Well, it's a partial success. Let's see where we go from here.

Oh yeah, I love the frost caves... :D

you have to parry his attacks to stagger him. This will leave you enough time to land one heavy attack. Then wait and parry again.
Also, try to sneak up on him. Opening shot with heavy attack can do more than 500 dmg. But sometimes it does make less than 200. I couldn't tell why. Sometimes opening shot is critical and other times it is not.
I have made 600+ dmg opening shot with porcupine. Hitting him when staggered can do between 250 and 350 dmg. He has 800 hp so you should be able to kill him with 2 hits - opening shot + one shot when staggered. But don't rush. First land an opening heavy attack then parry and attack again. If he hits you during windup you will take more dmg.
It is possible to make 2 successive heavy attacks but i managed to do that only in cheat mode where i spawned hundreds of golems before i could land 600 + 200 dmg.
