Number of hours needed to complete solo? Co-op?
Hi, everything about this game is great, and but one of the greatest features is no ticking clock to have to do something, like yesterday! Being a Veteran of 7d2d with over 4000hrs of stress over 2 accounts (and I'll play that game again it's great) this is a welcome user friendly sandbox 'let's go collect a few thistles' game that has hours of gameplay. Currently day 186 on a solocharecter and just got to Bonemass. made some errors of judgement along the way which added probably 50 days to that total, but you learn. Co-op so far is a disaster area, not finding a commited player to shorten task load and get to the end, currently 3 at bronze and not progressing. Just interested to hear how long it's taking the average player in solo or co-op to complete. Now for Bonemass...rip ;-)

i solo'd the game within a few (real world) days of playing. No knowledge of co-op.

I'm at day 140ish and only just bothered to kill The Elder. I love the meadows and forrest, not looking forward to swamp visuals so I dithered around exploring and killing trolls and experimenting with bridge building. I may accelerate my pokey playstyle to get to the plains which, aside from mosquitos I'm dreading, seems like where I'd want my endgame base to be. But I never see the need to rush through a survival crafting game. It's all about the long haul imo.

I'm at 126 hours played total with around 14 hours played coop.
Beaten all the bosses and done all the content solo, so it was about 112 hours for the solo experience.
Coop... we've only beaten first boss and just got bronze chestpieces and axes (and a knife for the more rogue-loving friend) in about 14 hours.

In short, the time needed for you and your group of friends may vary.

I'm about 250 hours in and am about to take on Yagluth. I could have finished much sooner but wasn't really motivated to since I was having fun and the game was holding my interest. For me I guess part of the fun of playing solo is not worrying about how many hours I've put into it. I'm not competing with anyone, and rushing to the conclusion most of the time means the end the game.

Honestly I do think alot of it will depend on luck of the seed. But anyway sorry I'm unable to answer your question since I haven't attempted a speed run haha

Thanks folks, this confirms what I'm experiencing; could be rushed, doesn't need to be.

Vinny's comment on "having fun and holding my interest" sums up my gameplay style right now. Once I've found all the locations on this seed, I'll probably try it again more rushed....but those damn seagulls are so distracting...especially the way way over there bow shots... that wonderful "yes" feeling when you've adjusted for drift on the second shot!

h3id, I think we all dread the next section, I mean I thought the swamp was a nightmare to begin with, but level a few paths thru to and from crypts, the night sorties are fine. think the mossies will be managable when I get there...

Thanks again, it's a brilliant game and has a rare element of really FUN to play solo or co-op.

Skaal/Skol, have a great game

speedrun or first run or casual run?
vanilla or mods?

Stuff like that makes difference ;D
With mods that remove idle simulators (where you go on youtube watch videos waiting for stuff) you can speed up over 30H ;d

I have only played solo for 365 hours or 600+ in game days.
I have exhausted all of the current game content and if and when I play now, it's usually just to build a folly when I get an inspiration for one.
I felt no need to rush and had no desire to play with anyone else.
This was all vanilla and no console commands. I'll try those out only when the game is more complete.
I'm quite content to wait until the end of the year for the Roadmap updates.

You can explore literally everything there is to explore within 50-80 hours.

Game really is content shallow and barren for anyone who isn't a dedicated builder player.

And it takes this much to complete it all not because there is 50-80 hours of content, but because of how grindy the progression is and how time consuming finding next bosses is.

SPOILERS BELOW, so don't read if you want to discover stuff for yourself!
I've played a couple of incomplete playthroughs. I don't speedrun, but I don't linger too long either. I think the numbers below are kind of representative for me. I should mention that I do enjoy the base-building aspect of the game, so more time is spent on that than what is strictly necessary.

Meadows exclusively 5-10 days,
Black forest/ meadows until day 20-30 when I fight the Elder (I try to find the trader at this point, so it also depends on how sneaky he is)
Time in the Swamp until I fight Bonemass depends a lot if I find enough Crypts and how far of the Bonemass spawn point. I guess day 50-70 is typical for that fight.
The time in the mountains is when it starts to vary A LOT, since silver can be hard to find and I've given up trying to find the location of the Mountain boss at least one time. In my current playthrough the first 6 mountains I explored had 1 silver node in total (though the 7th had 2 just next to each other) and I have still to find the Vegvisir to the boss...
Spending too much time in the plains before day 100 seems risky at the pace I play, but in my experience the Vegvisir to Yagluth (the plains boss) isn't that hard to find.
One in-game day being 30 minutes (right?) that would lead to anything from 50-70 hours up to infinity for a playthrough single-player.

Ehh think I spent around 100'ish hours before I'd exhausted the content with a 3 man coop. A LOT of that was spent just leaving it running AFK while friends did stuff though before I swapped over to dedicated server hosting.

If I had to do it again I'd probably be done with all the bosses in 40-50 hours solo I'd imagine. It doesn't have NEARLY the content of games like 7D2D/Ark/Conan Exiles.

...where it should be clearly pointed out that the game is only 2 months or so into its early access release (in case someone reads your comment not having bought the game)

Again thanks for the feed back, and I would agree alot with Earl's comments, especially the last one reminding that this is not a completed game yet. In Solo I also tend to spend too much time in small outer post base building, particularly against the random events, but I find it fun and if people wish to rush thru, then feel free to do so, I enjoy the slower fun pace that's allowed - for comparison I play warrior, 90min day, 3day bloodmoon, 150% loot, exp 100%, on 7d2d, last avatar lvl 180 (and still going with base intact), serious time stress and a complete planning discipline required.

Valheim is refreshing, and I wish everyone fun
