You know in real life some trees are very sappy and do not burn well? Others give off toxic fumes if burned due to a toxin in the sap that even when dried can release the toxin into the air. Well, in game there's some wood types that are much the same. Thus why you cant burn it. It makes very good sense seeing how much the game follows a more realism logic flow.

Well you know where I live we mostly use birch to grill meat. Yeah, in game you get both wood and fine wood, but you cant use fine wood to burn some fire. And I think mighty viking wont die of some toxins on the open trying to warm himself by the fire burning some core wood. So I dont know if its very realistic

you realize that charcoal kiln burns all 3 types, right :D?
this would generate much more toxin than normal campfire

And if you could burn it this thread would be "I used my precious core/fine wood on a fire! Lame!". Yawn.

This could easily be addressed by letting the player define what wood types should be used to fuel fires in a mini menu, maybe with a right click on fireplace.

Why would you want to tho?

Like.. if the different wood made the fires do different stuff.. dif colors or more sparks / crackling sure.

It depends a lot also on what biome your main base is in, and maybe different kind of wood could also have different durations till requiring refill

edit: the different colors is a good idea, maybe something for the mistlands and marches

Dont see why they cant enable this. Regular wood lasts forever already tho. I actually only ever put 1 in so it goes out. Sometimes that lighting difference is neat.. plus tossing another log on is comft af

In real life, sappy pine burns best and smells amazing. There aren't any more toxins in it's smoke that produce a significantly greater risk than smoke from other wood either.

Im really hoping we get more colored torches or fires. We have gunk torches.. and they look sick.

I thought core and fine worked in the kiln or have I been mistaken all this time?

I guess I see why they don't let us throw it in a campfire as core wood is supposed to be large beams and would need more chopping to fit but I do think we should be able to throw whatever wood we want or forget is in our inventory into a bonfire. I know I would get a kick out of the "Devs I lost all my ancient bark to a fueling my bonfire, fix this now!!!!" threads.
