So... you have discovered wood and stone, now go look for something else, like flint, for example ;)
especially the hammer...
Even if you don't want to store it 'now', pick everything you come across at the start.
your goal is to kill a boss in each terrain type, eg meadows
you do that by upgrading, which you do by making stuff. You will have to have a 'home' where you can craft stuff. There are 2 ways to craft things:
1) your hammer. its one of the first things you can get and you should make one asap. When you have one and equip it you can make a variety of things.
2) your crafting stations. Once you make them and put a roof on them you can make many things. You can make basic home things without the roof but go ahead and put the workbench under a roof so you can repair your hammer as you build up.
be sure to make anything in your crafting that looks like it may unlock more recipes. that includes crafting station upgrades like the chopping block and things that look like they may be used to make other things, like nails.
