Basement water problem ANSWERED
I tried to build a basement in my house but as I dug down it filled with water almost right away; like 2 picks dig down :steamsad:
Is there a way to stop this from happening?

build house in higher location

the water is everywhere at the same depth (under mountains too)
If you dig deep enough... you simply hit water (but in order to do it under mountain you need mod :D)

Nope. Dig down too far and you'll hit water in this game.

Oh that's a pain - I should have realised.
I like this location and have a lot here already, so, no basement :steamsad:

I think there is a limit on how low youi can dig and how high you can raise ground so digging in the mountains never gets you to water level.

But if you want to make a house with an underground basement you shold always consider building on top of a hill at the very least.

I had the same issue, wanted a basement got a pool instead, my solution has a half basement, basically a half wall step down for my crafting area, and a upper bedroom.
Not what I wanted but it beats moving the whole lot to the mountains :)

now other idea came to me... but it would look silly I think

1) raise ground in this area so your building is "higher"
2) now make basement under the building

but yeah... it will look weird when doors float somewhere higher than ground level :D
you would need to raise all surrounding area too (it's possible to plant grass using cultivator so it's possible to make it look more or less "normal")

if you like your current location you can tear down and make a raised ring with the hoe and smooth it all out on the inside of the ring (fix what you dug into water, etc). That is your basement. Now you can make stairs up and construct the main level on top of the ring as 'ground' (it counts for structural integrity) and your basement will be fine, though if its that low it may flood a bit in storms (won't hurt anything but it may make any fires blink off or make you wet if you are in it). If it bothers you to have the raised walls (they are actually a benefit against raids on the place) you can contour the outside back to match the terrain and grass it back over with the cultivator.

I'm not that fussed about a basement, I just was hoping to hide all the stuff needed to upgrade workbench/forge.

There is a limit, +/-8 meters from the original height. However if you use the debug options for free fly camera you can go under the terrain and see that water level is universal.

One of my bases has a basement just above the water line. On stormy days, waves will show up in there.

I built a kitchen in there, so there's 2 hearths with racks and a cooking pot.

Interestingly, these waves don't douse the fires or anything, looks like they are just for show.

I didn;t try hearth
But waves were extinguishing my campfire and bonfires
But it was lighting itself automatically when waves were away, so I didn't have to relit it ;D
