So looks like your options might be 1. accept the situation and look for other options, maybe a different location the might let you dig deeper enough even if the total distance is greater. Or 2, dive into the valheim data mining forums, learn how the world map file is formated and write an editor of your own.

Say it was measured in blocks - you can dig 10 blocks down from where it starts.

I hope they fix/expand that at some point. I'd like to see either some more advanced terrain tools that allow you to do more and/or be more precise, or the terrain system in general improved so we don't hit "undiggable" dirt which, by all reasoning, should be very diggable.
A mod that allows digging deeper and raising ground higher.

when floating in the air equip pickaxt and start...keep your pinky on the control button to lower yourself...with that you can dig motes deeper than a trolls height.
