What's next after Tanning Rack?

I've recently defeated the first boss, created the tanning rack and I've recently downed a troll and made a troll leather helmet. I've even mined some tin. I'm curious what is next that I need to do in order to upgrade workbench. I'm assuming I need copper first?

Yes , to build a forge.

6 copper and three tin for 3 bronze for the adze
minimum of 5 cores to refine ore and make coal

Highly recommend that you leave a row of floor panels behind your workbench and forge and a row to each side. That should leave enough room for all your upgrades without them getting in your way.

So now I'm having a difficult time with finding copper. I can see tin all over the place but no luck with the copper. Just tin, army of greydwarves and trolls.

Copper is in Black Forest. From a distance it looks like any other large moss covered rocks. Only up close do you see the copper veins. Most of the mines I have found are halfway between shore and the meadow margins. I did find 1 real close to the ocean, but that is not typical. Also am finding more after I crossed a river and am more into the "heart" if you will of the Black Forest - further from the meadow.

When you find one dig all around the portion of stone you see on the surface and go down about 5 or 6 pick blows. There is more under the surface in between standard rock. It also spreads out wider than what you see at the top. So you keep finding more veins. I'd go about 4 to 6 meters past what you see to get all of the ore. Often get 80- 100 ore per mine this way.

i recommend getting troll armor first, and use it aganist the 2nd boss if you think you are good in combat. also make bronze tools. If you are not good at pvp getting bronze armor is better because of a little extra protection. remember to make a forge and upgrade it. you will need a forge to work the metal.

remember before making anything, make smelters and charcoal things and be sure to make a lot of charcoal. you will need it. and you will also need carts in order to carry more copper because if you carry it in your inventory you can only get like 10 but if you carry it in a cart you can get more than 120
