Valheim

Naked, Incompatible Version, and Vortex
If you're like me, and spent a few $$ on a new NVme drive, and moved all of your Steam games to said drive, you might experience this if you use mods/addons. I had several mods installed locally using Vortex, such as Valheim Plus. When I launched the game, no V+, and my character on the startup screen was naked. I thought it was my dedicated server, but friends of mine were able to logon to it just fine. So immediately I determined the issue was due to moving my content to my other drive's Steam library. I thought I could move it back to the original library location, but same issue. I wound up uninstalling the game, Vortex, and any/all folders referencing Valheim, then reinstalled from scratch.

I added all of my mods manually from Nexusmods. Extracted V+ into my Steam library path. For me, it's E:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Valheim. It'll extract a folder called BepInEx. Most addons/mods will go into the BepInEx plugins folder (Valheim\BepInEx\plugins). After starting my game, everything was fixed. Gear was all there, and was able to login and play no problem.

I liked Vortex as an addon manager, but I don't think it's polished. Unless there is a way to let Vortex know that you moved your game content (because I'm pretty sure it's a pathing issue hidden in a file/cache somewhere on my computer - yes I removed the AppData\Local\Vortex folder, too), install your mods manually and you'll save yourself some headache. At least now I'm wearing pants.

Vortex uses symlinks which make it look like files are in a specific folder but they're in a different one. Windows uses this for most of it's files too.
If you move the files in your game folder to a new drive, the symlinks are broken. All you have to do is go into Vortex, set up the new location for the game, Purge your mods, then Deploy your mods to the new install.

Yes, there is a way to your game location in Vortex. Go to managed games, click the + sign (Show Details) on Valheim, select 'Manually Set Location". Probably would've saved you the pain of reinstalling everything.

But I agree, Vortex is quite clunky.

This game should support Steam Workshop. Nexus has had it's accounts database hacked before and I'd bet will again, it's not worth the risk.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
