I wouldn't mind seeing something like hardened leather using maybe troll hide and ooze from the swamp, crystal armor using crystals and frost glands from the mountains, and lox armor using lox hide and black metal from the plains.
Iron crypt key.
Wishbone for silver.
Tears for padded.
IDK though the tiers are pretty straight forward. And although I do have leveled up bronze I want to make sure I have the food and base defenses ready for beating the Elder, so I feel the value in getting the armor is still good. Farming up sausage and turnip soup mats, time to grow stuff etc.. I feel it works out nicely.
You can rush things of course, but for me the fun is in the journey. Explored around a lot until I found a nice black forest section with lots of copper surrounded by swamp so I can set up a base to work with the Iron.
Probably dig moat/ditches around existing bases today before I do the elder fight and already have some iron crypts mapped ready to go dig that out.
Then once I get iron it will be time to do base defenses all over again with stone walls.
Nothing really food wise in the mountains but that is when you can start to really farm up obsidian and frost glands for frost arrows and make the fang. Then the serpent hunting gets in full gear ha ha.
After that then it's time to find a plains to farm up some lox meat before dealing with modor.
I feel a smooth progression system is in place but some of it can be skipped if you force it, but not everyone is skilled enough to do that.
I'm not really rushing the game - lots of building - but there just doesnt seem to be much point in farming for example bronze. Especially since the -movement actually is kind of annoying. Which is why i made this thread with suggestions to actually make more armors viable at any given time in the game.
For example i got a bronze sword - but why even bother to upgrade it much when i can already make the iron sword?
I would really enjoy this game more if the progression was a bit slower and if all armors were upgradeable to an extent to make them still an option later in the game. (with different benefits) By "too slow" etc.i meant too slow compared to your general progression - it wouldnt be a problem if other stuff would also be prolonged by whatever mechanic. The problem is one gets "overpowered" pretty fast in the black forrest (a bit of troll armor and bronze sword) therefore bronze to iron is a rather small step.
To upgrade the regular deer hide leather armor to lvl4 for example, you need a workbench of level 5, for which you need a small amount of bronze and obsidian... Following the progression as intended, you acquire obsidian during the silver tier, and will probably not be interested in leather armor any longer (even if you want a light option, since there's the troll version).
However, the good thing about this is that if you die and need to retrieve your level one gear, the previous level's maxed gear is pretty useful.
For example i am now between black forrest and the swamp. I dont have a full bronze armor etc. but farming for bronze would probably be as much work as farming for iron (for a worse armor/gear) and i am not playing in the biome where the materials for bronze spawn so i pretty much skip most of the bronze stuff.
I think i would enjoy the game more if every armor would be viable until the end with more upgrades. Why not for example have light and medium armor for endgame with different pros and cons?
Figured I would save the iron for the padded stuff. <once I make a silver sword> And wolf is good enough to start on the plains with.
