They are so silly conceptually. What do they have to do with Norse mythology? The game would be way cooler if they adhered closer to Norse mythology and less on made up fantasy.

Furlings are from Stargate, one of the 5 major races. Fulings are essentially a goblin which do have some origins in mythology.

They're a bit too silly in terms of visual and audio design I'm inclined to agree.

They're fine in terms of gameplay of course.

Fulings...!!! a swenglish made up word from "fulingar" which kind of means "uglies" in Swedish... I think most of us swedish metalheads who like vikings just have this as humour... and that's about it, not meant to go by any mythology book, just inspired by all the different folktro väsen we have in sweden. it's just good old fun, some ugly creatures stabbing you to death, kind of absurd, it's metal as hell and i'd be surprised if they changed it.. the humorous creatures are everywhere in the game I mean?

Okay fair enough. Can accept goblins.

There are other creatures though that I can say this about: Bonemass, Deathsquitos, Lox, Elder, Yagluth

I mean there is so much lore in Norse mythology to draw inspiration from and instead they come up with a giant snot called Bonemass ...

Except a ton of what people think of as Norse mythology isn't actually, it's nonsense that's been attached to it in modern times. Vikings wearing horned helmets is probably the best known example of this, but its prolific to say the least.
The reality is there is very little actually survived about Norse lore, very very few documents or writings or anything else. And the belief system fell completely out around 1100-1300ish when the regions fell under Christian influence. As per normal that included stampIng out "pagan" beliefs, getting rid of artifacts and so on. Because of this actual traditions and beliefs largely weren't handed down and lost to time, and the majority of artifacts destroyed. It was only in the 19th century there was a resurgence with Aasatru and they took the 1% of left over knowledge and filled in with guesswork, assumptions based on personal biases, and borrowing from other sources.
So the game is free to add whatever "Norse inspired" stuff they want, it's no different than what's already been done to Norse mythology.
The sad truth is, like many things, the vast majority of historical Norse beliefs are lost forever to time and we only have scraps and guesswork.

Because they planned to name it BoneLESS, but that was too obvious.
