How do you all transport silver hauls off mountains?
The three options I'm aware of are:

Real Slow
Cheat
Kinda Daft (Booting carts and boats down giant ramps / over cliffs)

I'm leaning towards #3 unless anyone has a sensible middle ground approach?

Mine a bunch and longboat it back to main base. This is mainly because my large mountain (where also Moder is for me) is about a days ride with boat away. Before that i mined my closest mountain (which wasnt alot) and just legged it :)

So focus on coastal mountains and just sort of chuck it all down the side?

hauling the silver off mountain by foot (on purpose so i can collect stuff along the way)
storing it in a nearby outpost (maybe process it there)
and finally loading up my boat

Pick closest shore to mountain. You can use cart to go down cliff fast toward shore. I had lost control of cart once from not keeping it right behind me as I slide down. It got destroyed as it fell down, so I had to go collect my resources from crates that spawned from destroyed cart and items to rebuild cart. No biggie. It's better to travel down on cliff where there are no wolves or nests. You could use pickaxe for slower travel instead of sliding down the cliff but it may attracts other hostiles.

I explore the map until I find mountains with lot of silver and close enough to the ocean, with a possibility to use a cart downhill. If the terrain is too steep I walk round the mountains and search for a flat part. Then I build a little base at the shore and with a cart I bring all my silver there. The way I prepare a bit with a hoe before I start. Don't overload the cart.
When I have enough silver to load a ship, I teleport there and build my ship directly at the little base. This way I have to sail only the way home.

Of course I do it the legit way: I setup a ski lodge down below. And set another lodge up above. Then carve a very nice path to the top and along the way I get the silver and then just run downhill to the nearest silver processing station, all the while im skiing some gnarly ♥♥♥♥ down to the bottom.

I'm thinking building a thatch rubble chute to roll ore down would be a good middle ground.

Also we totally need a skiing mod.

Find Haldor and purchase the Megingjord. After that the option "Real Slow" isn't that bad.

Alternately you can just throw it off a cliff and pick it up below. Just don't loose it as it may despawn after 2-3 ingame days.

AFAIK it's protected if it lands in range of a workbench?

I just throw a full cart off a cliff, get down to it and tug it to the boat.
You do that once and you'll have all the silver you'll need.

If there's one lesson Valheim keeps teaching me it's that I haven't built / gathered enough of *anything*. No, not even that.

I have a base up top I stash all my silver in. I have steps and a path down the mountainside into the meadows. From there it's a 10-15 second run to a dock with a small shack and a boat.
Whenever I had a full load worth, I'd swap out my heavy armor for troll armor, ditch all non essential gear and just have an axe and bow and the belt and some food, and load up on silver. Run it down, run back up, repeat. Once it was all down, sail back to my main base. Then it was easy enough to retrieve my armor and gear via portal.

You can save yourself quite a bit of time by making a portal near your boat and another near the silver vein (or a nearby outpost). You only have to run downhill that way, and can portal straight back to the top.

I did the same thing. Don't forget to use Eikthyr's power so you can quickly do several runs in a row.

Why are you leaving the mountain? It looks down upon the swamp, home of the iron you've mined and the swamp, black woods, meddows, and plains, home to other resources. Build your base in the mountains, build a castle befitting housing Odin.
