Can you beat the bosses out of order?
Have a game where so far I have beat Elk and Elder. Got some iron and started to randomly search for silver. Managed to find a bunch of it.

So what happens if I beat Modor first?

The world level changes with each boss.. so will it get bumped to level 4? Or will beating Modor before Bonemass make the world level up differently?

Anyone tried this? Will it even let me trigger the fight? I did find the location for the modor fight so in theory I should just be able to trigger it?

Still haven't even found the trader yet...

It doesn't matter. Certain activities set a key and then at intervals of time the game checks if an event can occur. If the algorithm decides an event should happen, then it checks what keys are set and picks an event based on those.

Are "events" then the only consequence of leveling up the world? I thought all mobs got a small buff for each boss beaten!?!

I don't think mobs get stronger as such. The same key probably adds to the list of what can spawn in each biome. So you see grey dwarves in the meadows at night after killing The Elder for example.

No, not at all. The only changes killing a boss makes to you world is triggering new events, for example Skeletons spawning at night in the Black Forest, or Dragon invations to your base. But that's all, mobs don't get stronger or drop more/varied loot.

In terms of game code and functionality yes, in my experience though armor and weapon tier are locked until you beat a boss to help get that gear, so I imagine you could but it would be difficult with lower level gear

I've been thinking about this and I think a 0-boss run is possible.

* Craft leather armor, then troll armor
* Get a troll buddy to mine a bit of copper and tin for you and make a bronze pick
* Do the rest of the bronze stuff
* Use stagbreaker and blob farming to get enough iron to make an iron pick
* Go to mountains and use stagbreaker to find silver
* Craft a silver set
* Go to plains and do whatever you want

The hardest part is iron, since it's so scarce outside of crypts. But you don't actually need very much. Even if you want to craft padded armor the per-piece requirements are pretty low.

You got an unlucky seed. I have seen a couple seeds where the trader spawns were half way around the world.

If you want to know then you can look it up on the seed maps or have someoen else look it up to give you a general direction.

Technically there is underground piles that you would find with Wishbone in the swamp. However your chances to find them without Wishbone would be kinda rare and a huge pain.

Thanks for the suggestion but I would consider that cheating.

Of the 10 seeds I have played on, one had the trader on the starter island. Only two I have not found the trader on... so far. I'm pretty confident can find him on this one as I haven't really explored too much yet. Got lucky with some biome placements and resources so it's moved along well.

Doing a no death playthrough but using bronze armor in the mountains.. do have a banded shield though ha ha.

But it is the shield thing that got me thinking there was some "world leveling" going on.

I know in one of my games I had a banded shield doing well against the deathsquitos, but once we beat the next boss I kept getting a knockback when blocking preventing me from swinging to kill it. Perhaps the difference was number of players currently on the server?

Yes, player count increase both the health and damage mobs do.

Can't get stagbreaker without killing a boss 1st. You can't pick any ground without a boss kill.
Maelstrom 12/mai./2021 às 18:43
You don't need to kill the first boss to unlock stagbreaker. Trolls will pick the ground for you so theoretically you can skip straight to a bronze pick without killing any bosses.

How can you make the pick without antlers from the 1st boss?
Manwith Noname 12/mai./2021 às 20:13
You skip that pick. You get trolls to smash up the copper and tin and go straight for the bronze one.

More work than killing the boss, hilariously dumb to do, but hey, what ever makes the gamer happy.
