The best iron weapon?
So I just made it back to main base with 120 scrap iron and I made some armor and an ancient spear.

What other weapon should I craft to dominate the swamp?

Mace is going to work best against bonemass. Some may suggest the iron sledge instead, though I'm not a fan. Ideally though, I think you should make the weapon you've been using the most up to this point for the built up skill.

In the end, every weapon is going to be good enough in any situation with enough player skill. And there is (usually) enough iron in the swamps (your mileage may vary) to make more weapons if you're unhappy with your first choice.

Iron mace. Great against the boss and effective against most everything else.

Ok now what about a shield?

Get an iron mace and a shield, then start your armor, iron sledge is a good weapon, but not a good general purpose weapon like the mace :)

(Sledge basically sets off a big aoe, good for groups, and thing alike leeches, but it's slow, and you can't use a shield, so it's better suited for multiplayer, but I still use it near the endgame for fulings villages ;D)

As others have said, mace for swamp. Skeletons, blobs, oozers, bonemass are all weak to blunt and draugr & wraith still take normal damage.

Mace is the best for Bonemass, but iron sledge is also very useful - you can attack through walls and scrap piles inside of crypts. It's quite difficult to operate, but you can always switch between a mace+shield and iron sledge.

Well I was able to make a full set of iron armor plus ancient spear and iron buckler. I got a bunch of turnips but where do I make the food with them? I dont see any options in my cauldron and I have a spice rack down also.

If you don't already have fully-upgraded Iron tools (Axe and a Pick or two), those are number one. However, the Iron tools have to be.. level 3? I believe, before their durability is higher than fully-upgraded Bronze. (So realistically, you can wait on the Iron tools until you have an excess of Iron to upgrade them fully.)

Iron Mace is a must. It was the first item I crafted upon getting enough Iron, and I have no regrets whatsoever. When fully upgraded, it can one-shot 2-star skeleton (or very, very close to it), Blobs are one-shotted, Oozers can take just a couple hits, and a staggered Draugr, even 2-star, only a couple hits.

I also suggest either the Iron Buckler (2.5x Parry bonus) or the Banded Shield (1.5x Parry bonus, but more block armor). Learning to Parry is an absolute must if you intend to survive combat with starred Draugr.. especially Elites.

Outside of that, I also crafted the Iron Sledge after farming an Elite Draugr trophy. I don't typically use it in combat (for now), but it's absolutely amazing for clearing out sapling trees for excessive amounts of Wood and Resin when you need them.

The Huntsman Bow is good to have, but if you have a fully-upgraded Finewood Bow, save Huntsman for later on. I also suggest keeping your Iron Armor set stored in a chest for later; you can get by perfectly fine in the Swamps with a Troll set, and it saves you some carry limit also. (Iron Chest or Legs == same weight as an entire Troll set)

I don't particularly like Spears or Atgeirs, so I haven't crafted one of those. However, if you're trying to play it safe inside of Crypts and peek around the semi-mined sides of Scrap Piles to pick off the Draugr that may be in there, an Atgeir would be pretty useful.

upgrade the cauldron (it require turnips, carrots and other things to built)

You may need to also loot the other ingredients before the recipes unlock. For Swamp-tier stuff, you'll want to make sure you loot:

* Bloodbag (from Leeches)
* Entrails (from Draugr)
* Ooze (from Blobs)

Those are the Swamp-tier ingredients for Black Soup (I think is its name), Sausages, and Muck Shakes respectively. Turnip Stew should unlock as soon as you loot an actual Turnip, which the recipe calls for (3x Turnip, 1x Raw Boar Meat).

The iron mace goes a long way. dunno if it's the most effective weapon but i'm still using it while in the "black metal" era.

Weapons? Armour?

Why are you not making nice comfy beds and pretty sconces?

The cauldron menu has a "2" in the star, upper right? If not your spice rack may be too far from the cauldron.

I just cant think of anything else....:steamfacepalm:

Ugh frustrating because the spice rack is literally right next to it but separated by a wood wall.
