So why hasn't it been fixed yet? Well, why hasn't the boat floating in the air haven't been fixed yet?
The answer is: they're getting there. I'm sure the devs have the bugs and excessive howling tracked in their issue tracker somewhere.
Also, you can complain further here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/2/3112542578519474635/
You can alternatively get a mod to turn off howling: https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/lx4mp4/mod_are_you_tired_of_those_wolf_howls_keezys/
Thus it has been since Colossal Cave.
It's not hard to pull off. It's been like that from release.
I'm not sure if devs even consider fixing it.
If it's intended to be annoying I'd rather understand it's how they want it to be. Maybe they thought having too many wolves is OP and give player disadvantage lol.
My theory is, they didn't put it on their high priority cus sounds are not game breaking. But it breaks my mind.
And thanks for the links :)
They keep howling cause they want you to butcher them, their lives are over and feel trapped and yearn for the sweet release only one can howl their way into
Regarding your comment: I laughed pretty hard but the slow realization that what you said can be uncomfortably close to the truth quieted me down.
We just adopted a former breeder dog - it understands almost no commands except "No!", had no name, will not eat food from your hand, the concept of walking on a leash is foreign to her, etc., etc.
However, our rescued canine prostitute now has a name plus other words she's recognizing, is a complete cuddlebug, is progressing on leash walking, has eagerly met a few neighborhood dogs and shows great progress entering 'society'.
Since the boars convert to domesticated critters maybe the devs could make a shift in the wolves demeanor - at least tune down the howling once tamed. Maybe something like only when enemies are near.
My brother's dog goes off everytime a fire truck gets within ear shot or a plane with a whinny jet engine flys over.. hilarious most of the time but really annoying at night :)
