Beds and Fire. WTF?
So, i'm new to the game. someone explain this to me. You can't sleep in a bed that's not next to a fire, however, you can't put a fire in a shelter? Am I missing something?

You can put fires in a shelter. Just remove the floor board. Place it there. Make sure you have proper ventilation.

Fires must be on solid land. Makes sense cause if you build a fire on a wooden floor, your house burns down.

you need to make a kinda chimney that takes the smoke out of the house and remove the wood flooring. there's videos on how to do it properly on youtube. :butterfly:

A fire can be placed on solid land, or anything built with stone. make sure to either find a safe way to trap the smoke, or vent it out. use a roof piece to direct the smoke out if you decide to build a chimney. the entire chimney has to be at least 2mx2m wide (the width of a wall.) else the smoke will not escape through what looks like a perfectly sized hole. (this means placing a beam or pole in the middle of the exit will block the smoke. the particles are pretty big.)

Just build the fire on the other side of the wall your bed is against. Works for me every time.
It gets to be fun to come up with clever and attractive ways to move the smoke.
Alternatively, Just put the fire outside the shelter, with a couple bits of roof above it so it doesn't go out in the rain. Then your insides are still within the operating radius of the fire.

I also usually but some angled roof pieces above the fire to help shield it from rain.

You can build a fire on stones as well as on two fine lumber laid connecting on the floor

I challenge you to build a fire in your own home and try sleeping in it. Or apply the logic cavemen did and build an exit aka chimney for the smoke to get out so you can have a fire indoors. big brain time.

Exactly. While you can build inside using some of the methods listed above there's no requirement for the fire to be inside the structure. It simply has to be within a certain range of the bed.

It does make some sense because it gets cold at night which causes a debuff and being near a fire cancels it. Just think of it being a bit too cold to sleep safely, and the fire ensures you don't get hypothermia.

If you build it outside, doesn't it just go out when it rains?

if you build it under a roof then it doesn't go out

There were two campfires side by side there in the original build, Just worked out that when we go to stone the hearth was a perfect fit.

This base ultimately got an epic 3 long boat doc, a portal basement, and manicured gardens. The base, the merchant , the docs, and the gardens where all inside a moat on the shore in the black forest, with a stone wall, on the inside.
