So I've built a base in black forest bordering swamp...

No I'm just joking I didn't build anything, well at least I didn't finish it. Not that I don't want to but becasue theres greydwarves attacking all the time. No seriously I'm not joking. ALL THE TIME. I get ground is shaking here and there and that is no problem, but right after I kill the trolls there comes 7-10 greydwarves, so I kill them too. But 10 seconds later more come. And so on and so on. I don't even want to talk about what happens at night. I'm seriously thinking of giving up, it's the single most annoying thing in the whole game. Not to mention it's not even rewarding killing them anymore.

Is there any legit way of making them stop coming and hitting everything? They go for portal each time.

Put a stakewall around your base. It'll prevent your structures from drawing aggro (most of the time). While you're inside your walls all the nasties should just wander aimlessly around your base. If that's not enough use spikes. You're in the black forest so you have no shortage of corewood. And if you need help don't be afraid to ask :) I'll happily come help you out and watch your back while you establish a stronghold

There may be a dwarf spawner close by your camp. Once it's found and destroyed you should see fewer Grey eyes

When I was fairly weak in the black forest, I quickly built a small base with 4 walls to keep me safe. You can see the greydwarves, but you're usually "reasonably safe" if you stay inside your box.

- If you don't see any of them around, cut down trees and expand your base, always ensuring you're protected.
- If you see the dwarves, just jump back in your box and and focus on building your existing walls, floors, structure, maybe even a roof.
- if they attack the walls, just ignore them until the health gets low and then just repair it quickly. Only takes seconds.

I realise this approach goes against the "lay down the foundation first" advice some people prefer, but if you're getting annoyed by those greydwarves, this is one way to handle it.

You could build a tree house in the swamps on the large trees that can't be cut down, only mobs you need to worry about are wraiths or drakes during an event, or dig a trench around your base

Use the hoe to build up a mound if your base isn't already on a natural rise. Also, dry moats are your friend and can be done faster than a mound. Just make sure you keep the dirt walls on moats and/or trenches vertical so critters can't path up them.

swamp tree bases are great build right near some crypts and you got a nice supply of iron and a safe base, build the smelter and kiln on top of the crypt and make a stairs to the tree base, once you have enough iron to make the stone cutter make a hearth attached to the tree and your golden

yeah i usually dig a 2x wide trench with a log wall on the inside of the trench.
pretty much the first thing i do everytime i start a new settlement

They are attracted to noise pretty easily.
If your house is small enough - place a bunch of campfires around it. That should keep them away.

Trench is the way to go at the moment. Unless you're building on an island, then nullifying the spawn with structures is also an option.

Being worried on the edge of a swamp about the greydwarves is kinda humorous.

Make sure no mob can see the portal.
Don't work at night, that's just asking for trouble.
The resin is useful.

You can see the distance to swamp in the screenshot... this is one of the amazing moments being chased by greydwarves and friendly trolls at the same time.

I think I know what he is talking about. I was building a road from my base to the bottom of a mountain for cart transport of silver and there was this spot in the dark woods where 3 greydwarves would spawn, I would kill them and they instantly respawned. I watched it happen about 10 times in a row before I built my road further down out of range of that spot. There was not a spawner there, I even dug down a bit in that spot thinking there was an underground spawner but there was not. I think it was just a bugged spawn 'spot' with a 0 timer on respawn. I could see that getting annoying if you built a base close by, at least until you threw a campfire on it or something.
