Personally I would like there to be something like the cart that would auto plant (with the proper spacing) things from its inventory (Top Left to Bottom Right).
It would add some progression to farming.
Also, a farming skill to decrease stamina usage when planting, I really don't like eating food just to have the stamina to plant without having to stop every 30 seconds.
As a person with around 600 crops planted fairly consistently, thats my input.
Build a wall or palisade at the end of your planting area. Stand back and plant your carrot or carrot seed (have not found other seeds yet).
For left to right distance, plant one at each edge of the palisade and one in the center (palisade gave me better line up points than the wall).
For up/down distance, the top of the graphic of the item you are planting sways left/right (hard to see with carrot seeds at first). That top part of the plant should just miss where the ground touches the palisade. As you move away from the palisade, the top of the item you are planting should just muss the bottom of the previous plant.
I can do a field of about 180-200 carrots plus a field of carrot seeds to replant in about 4-5 minutes of real time.
I'd rather see more content atm than a "fix" for gardening that really isn't needed.
to the above: IRL to get seeds you let the plant mature longer; for example a cucumber would grow to about the size of a shoe and turns yellow, then the seeds are mature and the thing is only edible if you are starving to death. Most? Half? of the things we eat are immature seed-wise (fruit tree produce being an exception).
Not too bad as it is, just a bit tedious atm.
I do like the idea of the planting range thing, not like they will actually do it but thats been the best idea/suggestion so far.

I have room for 200 plants if I want. Weathering doesn't matter so i leave the floors out. As I harvest and plant I move the floors to the open spot created by harvesting. It seems to take as much time as planting by eye but with fewer errors. After getting the seed stock up I usually plant 60 carrots, get 180 seeds, plant them, Harvest 120 for food, then plant 60 again when needed.
Every game has trade offs. Minecraft , for example, has grids but plants need a water supply.
My basic feeling is why play a survival type game if there's no effort needed to survive. I don't think dumbing down the game is an improvement. My brother and I fly a lot of flight/ combat games and the more realistic the controls are the more you hear complaints.
I do occasionally place one or two seeds/seed plants too close to something, but it's not a big deal. Not like gardening IRL has a 100% success rate either.
