Death figure randomly appearing..

So recently when I am roaming around i'll see this death figure, I cant shoot it to damage it and when i get close it dissapears. Any hints or ideas about what this thing is?

Some believe it's Odin.
There's also those standing stones and 1 of them hints at a person that might be him. It talks of an adventurer who was sent there, under the exact same situation as you - for the same purpose. Tells you of his journeys and where he ended up in life.

Those are the 2 possibilities I've come across so far

There is Odins clothing as DLC item for beta testers. It has roughly the same appearance as the strange guys clothing (the details of the strangers clothing are hard to see, tho). Furthermore, the stranger uses the same type of teleportation like his ravens (implode to smoke). Last, it just makes sense, the guy who sends you there also is monitoring your progression. There is not much doubt for me, but yes, I can't tell it for sure.
