I am good at games which require grind, but if you don't make several spare sets of armour, mead, food weapons etc you are in danger of losing everything on a mountain top with no reasonable way to get it back :) (I hope you can sense the pain...)
There is a set progression and you should only enter areas you are prepared for. Dying should rarely become an issue if you follow the progression and only go to places you are prepared for.
But yea great singleplayer game!
After my 1st (disasterous) 2 games (save/load failure then a bad seed), I've used console commands to take a run around the map, see the bosses, explore a little etc, then restarted a game without them. And I'm much better now, but that 1st experience with a Troll crushing my carefully constructed base in my 1st game will always stay with me.
And in the end, that's what I play games for to have an experience that is episodic and story-like.
Here's hoping they keep the exploring interesting....
So yes, I followed the set progression. My mistake was in not spending the extra few days grinding to have enough spare high level gear and supplies to guarantee getting back to my body.
I'm not complaining by the way, it's great to have a game that doesn't treat us like entitled lazy unimaginative kids for a change :)
The biome is balanced for Iron armour and tools so I can't really say what you might need to do to get your stuff back. Is it Moder that's preventing you from getting your stuff back?
Basically I need to craft a new set of iron gear, a decent bow and some poison arrows (which seemed pretty effective until he killed me with a lucky shot (honest)). Plus a set of meads and some decent food. The latter stuff I can do when Moder leaves off attacking my base, if anything is left.
I can probably recover the situation, but I'm just pointing out to the OP that single player isn't an easy ride unless you plan meticulously and have plenty of backup gear and supplies before taking any big risks.
Unforgiving is nice. The pain is something that's worth playing for in this types of game. So bring on the pain~
Here's to hoping they keep adding more to it. Game seems extremely fun.
I can't upgrade at the moment since I have delicate work files tied to my current pc. So I'm really banking on at the moment this is still playable on 7.
