Late game iron grinding.
This game needs a heavy balancing with the grind, I never use cheats but this game is really time consuming and tempts me to use cheats just to advance faster with the iron items. Game is great, it just needs some heavy redesign on the progress imo.

I mean, after the third boss, you just run around swamps and will beep when you're near iron nodes, same as doing silver in the mountains. Managed to gear a 5 man server in all iron just from the crypts though before even doing bonemass, and did all the workbench/forge upgrades, and everything needed. (Before padded armor upgrades)

It's just RNG with the crypts. I've come across some crypts that have multiple chests with 15+ iron scrap each. Just keep diggin'! ;)

That's the point of it being in EA, to better tune the game for full release.

As for using cheats to advance faster...
There's not much in the game past iron gear and if you speed past that with cheats you'll find yourself in my position where I've mined enough ore to upgrade everything to t4 and am just bored building now.

Hell yesterday I joined a friends server on a new character with nothing and killed Eikthyr with a flint knife and wood shield I farmed from scratch and did half his health in one sneak attack because knives are broken af on sneak attacks.

I was decked out in iron after just a couple hours. It was crazy fast compared to bronze for me.

Iron was pretty tedious to farm but you shouldn't really need that much unless you plan on making a ton of reinforced chests. The gear is the biggest sink but it becomes obsolete pretty quickly (silver is open once you beat 3rd boss), I think I only ended up making an iron mace out of it. -Only farm as much as you want to. No need to collect every piece of gear and max upgrade it. I beat the 5 zones and bosses with troll armor.

I think people have the wrong idea about upgrading gear. You don't need to upgrade each tier to max to proceed. Hell, you don't have to upgrade them AT ALL to beat the bosses. Upgrading is really only if you're struggling. Not a requirement.

I beat the 3rd boss with T1 iron armor. After I farmed that I went to fight him with a mace and shield and won with poison resist mead. (although he was tough for me).

You really don't need to upgrade everything and I think that's where people are going wrong sometimes with this game thinking everything should be max level but that's not the case.

Unsure why people want to progress so fast. Im in t4 padded and t4 wolf cloak and I was actually upset that it was so easy to bypass spending much time in Bronze/Silver tiers.
Then upon getting t1 padded its upgrades were that easily accessible it didnt make sense.

I am in agreement for a re-balance of the armour grind but leaning more toward making it longer or at least making previous tiers more valuable with certain set bonuses.

Yeah this come from the verticly linear progression, each tier make the previous one useless and so the biome that goes with it become pointless to explore too.

I still don't get the design decision about making every metal not being able to teleport it. That clearly adds to the grind.
Scarletwing Feb 21, 2021 @ 5:35am
expand your territory with portals, and build new settlement. Basically, thats how viking do. And you should do the same... Hows that difficult? I have no idea why so many ppl want to curry metal back through portal... this game is already too easy with unlimited use and placement of portals

So use a mod then, if it's a gamebreaker for you, which it seems to be for a lot of others. It alters the true/false toggle in the game for the Portal resctiction. I must admit I don't see the need for the restriction either. People are OK with sailing around, as I am, because exploring is part of the game to find new biomes and get more resources, but not allowing metal through is just tedious.

I wish portal did not exist at all. You find new place and make a new home new settlement.

Yeah sure, just increase the already high grind by making micromanaging inventory some more by wasting time traveling from point A to point B

I have a hard time with these posts...
Have you ever played a 'survival' game? They are, by design, a time sync. Its like buying a horse, then griping it doesnt go 100 mph. If you bought this because 'VIKINGS', well...there is your issue.

I just posted similar... we're on a MP server and have found 2 crypts so far.. every other bit of swamp we have explored since then? Nothing :(

Now for a single player we did haul a lot of iron out of those two crypts... but not enough for 5 - 6 people!
