ValheimPlus is the mod you are looking for, OP
Don't kid yourself: this is fully by design and intended. If YOU as a player want it to be different: the onus is on you to change the factors you don't like... as opposed to trying to convince the team who designed it to be this exact way that their way is wrong.
I mean: you'll never get the changes you posted about. Not ever. Like NEVER. So you may as well mod up and have fun in the game your way!
Or they can add a Scraper in. That will give a RNG chance of recovering a uncommon item or better and a chance the recover will be 50/75/100% (say 50%-50%. 25%-75% and 25%-100%)
That way you can make stuff and while the boat still ensure you get all your stuff back a scrapper does gives you the ability to move it but at a loss.
This keeps the Dev's seeming intention to keep the Portals from being overly exploited while also giving some freedom to the whin...players.
Mining ores would be utterly trivial if you could just throw down a portal and you're instantly back home.
I'd honestly rather see an extra line of inventory slots.
