skill loss on death too high. whats the point?
I had my bows to 30. Now it 18. Had sword in low 30s. now its low 20s. whats the point of working on skills when you will loose them. You can die from jumping off a rock. dont fall off the stairs. way too easy to die, and the loss is staggering. I dont see any point on working on skills anymore. Loosing interest fast.

I will admit, I have never seen a game that does it like this... usually in games when you die you just lose some exp - not whole skills.

Fun fact 1: you can beat this entire game - all bosses - with 1 archery skill

Fun fact 2: you can use console command to give yourself 100 placebo... er... I mean 100 skill points if that's what you need to see to feel amazing

Skill points right now are entirely placebo. They don't really do too much other than, apparently, piss people off.

You should see what a REAL death penalty feels like and play some Everyquest or Path Of Exile. Yikers. If placebo ghost points HERE piss you off... jesus... imagine losing 10% XP past level 95 in POE! (3 hours of your life POOF GONE)
Ya I took a monstrous hit to my wood cutting and bow skill on my last death! Lost 13 levels of woodcutting and my bow skill dropped by 20! They were 62 and 60 respectively before death and afterwards they were 49 and 40 which on each one is roughly a 30% drain!

Annnnd... you used to chop down a tree in 5 chops... whereas now you chop down a tree in..... 5 chops.

Like, boys, it's literally ALL entirely placebo. It's NEGLIGABLE differences in all skills between 10 to 20 to 30 to 40 etc...

What is it that you could do that you can't do now that has thrown a shadow over your game? You just like collecting brownie points and playing at being epic or you enjoy the actual game-play and what you're doing along the way?

Not meaning to be snide, but you can one-shot kill stuff at low bow levels just the same.

The rate at which your Stamina drains is actually different from 40 to 60 by a noticable amount. Does it mean I can't play bow anymore? No. But I don't feel like a single death should strip levels that cost hundreds and hundreds of arrows to level up.

Bare any difference in skills between 1 to 100, they help but you can beat the with low skill pretty easy. stamina for drain reduction is good but not needed. the Damage buffs are not needed to beat the game.

Well, to prevent people from abusing the death mechanic, a very good idea otherwise people would use death teleporting

Never die, Warrior.

Unless its from falling trees.

Am I missing something? I death teleported quite a bit to set up portals and never really noticed any issues with difficulty increases. Did all 5 bosses with a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ bow and troll armor and maybe 46 in bows. To me it seemed like the skill system was kind of meaningless.

you dont need the skills at this point to really do anything it just makes everything easier

however the stamina drain ahs a massive difference in say 0 in bows compared to 50. if you charge and hold a shot you will really see a difference! but for most weapons skill level just adds a few points here or there the quality and material type have a much larger effect.

I started my MMO life in Lineage 2. Back in 2004 when it launched in America. 3 hours of experience for a death makes me giggle when I think about deaths at levels 55+ in Lin2. Could be literal DAYS of experience grind lost from a single death.

A beneficial effect produced by a placebo drug or treatment, which cannot be attributed to the properties of the placebo itself, and must therefore be due to the patient's belief in that treatment.
Therefore, the skill bars are just there to give you that sense of accomplishment, as well as loss of progression, without actually hindering your gameplay experience in the slightest. Funny how psychology works.
