Workbench build area..
What do you guys think?? I'm not a fan of this at all, only being able to build within the circle..I want to build a farm abit away from the main home but I dont want to scatter workbenches everywhere... I'm gona see if there is a mod somewhere to disable this..the building in this is game is reeeaally nice but I feel it is kinda ruined by this feature..it's not like the area is even big..if it was alot bigger then I could be down with it.

For the 100th time it's fine. Just build work benches. They're easy to make and cheap, plus the radius prevents enemy spawns. Don't "scatter" workbenches. Build small buildings with them, it takes only a minute or two, and looks fine. Besides, the more benches you have the more places you can stop and repair your gear. Slap down a fire and a couple cooking stations. Couple walls, roof. Bed. More places to spawn, sleep, and get the rested buff.

I should probably just stop reading the forums, too many people complaining about things that truly are non-issues. :nonplussed_creep:

So, do what I do, when building a far..

I plop down a workbench, near the area I'm going to build, then build said area, then remove the bench.. This is how I made my outer spike walls, I then made my forging area, but decided to keep the work bench in the same area, as it looked better and I didn't have to run back to my main building area every time I got back from a gathering run.

I'm fine with it. It would be nice however if the workbench could access the inventory of chests in it's area for crafting.

Ya you can just build a workbench make your structure and remove workbench when done however when you do this it feels kind of pointless in needing a workbench in the first place. It's like when you build your first house in how you need a workbench down to place floors then remove bench and replace on floors. It's not a huge problem since a workbench doesn't sustain your building but at the same time it also feels pointless when you really think about it.

Oh yeah, I've suggested this directly via the in-game feedback tool. This would be a great addition. Not necessary, but a good QoL feature.

I don't particularly mind having to build a workbench each time, but i just don't see what it's trying to accomplish as a game mechanic.

As a simple example I built a line of torches through the swamp so i didn't get lost, this requires moving the workbench steadily along with you. But what would be lost if i hadn't had to do it? Nothing that i can tell.

I mean other than wasting a few seconds it doesn't seem to accomplish anything.

Not related to the workbench but like why make torches? There's a mini map, a world map, and a way point system, also both maps act as a GPS system more or less and tells you which direction you are facing.

I agree, it would be nice if the crafting stations could pull from chests within an area. It would make crafting with metals a lot easier since its not uncommon for you to end up encumbered due to the sheer number you need for some projects or running back and forth if your processing copper and tin and have a lot to get done.

If you destroy your workbenches after building something, enemys can spawn around your structures. Workbenches act as a despawn zone. If you don't mind getting raided in your walls then by all means destroy your Work Benches.

I'm okay with the Work Benches, I feel like they can benefit by them getting boosted 2-3 tiles though.

I mean you say that but I still get grey dwarfs wandering up to my home AND EVEN running into my home right passed me while I'm sitting there forging like "THE DOOR IS OPEN GO GO GO" Then I kill them for home invasion and not getting off my property.

Rather than for being "lost" as such, it was basically marking out a route that avoided deep water (even without the threat of leeches i hate the fact that water in this game acts like treacle) whilst getting me where i wanted to go whilst mining iron.

I see, I find it pretty easy tho to just have high stamina maybe with eikthyr buff on at times to just spring and jump over thin water parts. Gets your jump skill up by doing so since I never really had a reason to jump a lot before.

It prevents building everywhere. Every survival/building in an open world game has some sort of building limitation. Most require you to build foundations first to then build walls for example

Instead of having to flag every building piece as *can be build here, can't be build there*
All they need is *can be build with a workbench, workbench can't be build here*

It is just a limitation to force you to put a little bit of thought in building.

I mean that would be use full if it was a multiplayer game but it is a co-op (Like how minecraft works) It's just weird in some situations in how you have to place workbench then build floor then move workbench onto floor so you can roof it and use it rather then just building anywhere. It's not a problem to build it and remove it later but it is weird that you need it to have it in the first place.
