Running a dedicated server
So I've put up a separate machine to run a dedicated server out of and I want to run the Valheim dedicated server tool however if I am running it off of my account will this prevent me from logging in at the same time? Am I able to get the dedicated server tool separately or could it then be run off of another steam account without needing to repurchase the game?

I think as long as you have it downloaded you don't need to be logged in. I also read somewhere that you can download and install the server without owning the game, but I haven't been able to test that yet. If that's true, you could make a second Steam account just to run the server.

I logged in just to test that it would run and the dedicated server launches and then instantly closes itself. I'm running it on Ubuntu 20.04.

don't run it as you, run it as anonymous

The dedicated server runs in linux - run this game on a little headless box, it's trivial. I can share my management scripts... actually i should do that.

Absolutely. I've got a Linux VPS that I'm toying with that my buddies and I could use for whatever hosting we wanted to do. Valheim just gets to be the sacrifical lamb. I've seen SteamCMD for running it anonymously and could probably set that up. I just want to simplify it as much as possible as I plan to give a couple friends access to the VPS so that we have multiple admins who can mess with the server if something happens and I'm not around.

I apologize in advance for the autism. This is a tool I wrote for myself so the documentation is mainly to remind me.

Does anyone know where the world file is located in Steam CMD? We're also utilizing Linux GSM. We got the server up but want to swap in our old world file.

exit steam on steam on the server pc. then navigate to the install directory of the server and run the headless batch script. You will have to edit that file to set a server name, world name, and password

edit: these instructions are for windows. You should still be able to run the server without be logged into steam though.

I have the server name, world name, and password set. What I want to do is bring over the world.db file from my local machine and run it on the server. However I do not see where to place the old file to make it read that one.

On windows, the dedicated server world save is in the same spot as my gaming pc's spot.
[user]/appdata/locallow/irongate/worlds

...(i think that is the file path.

~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/worlds

I know, right?
