Why can't I bring ores through portals?
What is this BS unnecessary padding to a tedious grind?

I agree, especially since you can cheese the ♥♥♥♥ out of, by making an alternate world and fill yourself up overburdened and log out then log in your main seed in your base.

Its just another example of a non fleshed out system. They intended to make the game "seem longer" by forcing you to move ore via cart/ship, but didn't thoroughly think the system out realizing people would just circumvent the game mechanic by hopping worlds.

Because.

Go check out "Valheim Plus" (It's on Nexus Mods).
That mod has an option you can enable to "fix" that (along with other things), if you want.

Gameplay Reason To get your ass out in the world and use the actual methods of transportation of goods, namely carts and boats.

Portals are a convience of traveling between bases quickly or get back to your corpse quickly if you prepped one at a dangerous spot.

Not to mention you can easily tear down smelters and the like to transport them to a forward outpost, and travel there once by boat with some workbenches and forges and their upgrades to make the new gear from the ore you are mining..

All in the name of exploration and building new homes on new islands. When you get to the Iron stage in the game, that's when it will really hit home. I enjoyed sailing the seas and exploring, so you kind of have to have that mentality towards the game.

Valheim Plus is a total game changer. Highly recommended.

Sounds great, but I gotta admit I chuckled abit of the prospect of modding a just released EA titel. :D

Portals were really just meant to be a convenience for fast traveling between your bases and being able to corpse run to a different island without having to build a boat each time. Things like that. Since ore is used for progression, it was banned through portals so that vehicles still had relevance.

i agree with u
i think you shouldnt we able to get anything threw the portal

Contrived reasons to make the game more of a grind.

Me too but I guess everyone but a patient few want that mod urgently, as it gets round a rather stupid design choice by the devs.

I enjoyed that when I was EXPLORING (i.e discovering now places / uncovering the map) but once it becomes just a part of the endless grind to haul ore, all that sailing becomes resentfully tedious. Building outposts everywhere even more so.

nonsense
the gameplay-loop would've made sense if it was:

travel long (loooong) distance to setup camp/portal (carry material via cart/ship)
get ressource (tiny bit of ressource, thanks to weight limit, inventory size, terrain and node-yield) portal up back
rinse repeate, but skip the travel time now

now it seems more like travel ad infinitum get setup with camp, build cart, get ressource to camp, load ship, travel ad infinitum back to main base.

or be smarter, cheat the system via spawn setup and different worlds.

your solution only works if you want to setup a whole base every couple of ours, which can take ages thanks to the tiny amount of ressources you get while needing a ton or early game when raids are nonexistant or only consist of dwarfs. the moment trolls and higher tier mobs show up you need a real base to defend or cheese via terrain (thanks to the incredible dumb ai)...which doesn't work at all when you look at the effort it takes to setup a noncheese base which can defend itself.

the game is EA, perhaps they find a common design philosophy, but as it stands it just doesn't work for any "normal" person, unless you like the pretend you go to work cause you are on paid leave thanks to covid (which i'm not).
but looking at the fact that this game has one feature above all: uneccessary timesink, i highly doubt it.
