FLAW - gear recovery
You can get caught in an endless full inventory loop where you have a powerful enemy camping your grave. Even if you manage to access the grave you just get a menu and you are dead before you can transfer so you have to go naked, where you are so weak you get insta-killed. I don't see the point in recovery at all. I'd rather just hardcore, you die, you lose your stuff than have the recovery mechanic at all?

well you can just leave it and make new gear? no need for hardcore mechanic.

i guess someone just ran into a plains and is now in the domain of the mosquitos

I died for seven times at the same location. Skeletons were too strong for me (just played for a couple of hours at this time). That was very frustrating. But I set a map marker and returned after having much better weapons. Now the skeletons were easy to kill.
Do not loose motivation.
Dying in the game is part of the game ;-)

I am not demotivated. But i do not see the point in the mechanic. Yes we can give up the gear, and just grind and craft to replace but that is grind, so hard core, ok fine with me. Or don't, and let us recover our gear, that's fine too. But the way it is now i feel that I am being blocked by the inventory mechanic only. That is less fine it's just annoying?

When you are running back to your gravestone make sure you have nothing on you (eat food first of course) then when you're at your gravestone just press E real quick and you'll pickup stuff where they were before you died. You also get a resurrection buff that will give you stamina/health to run away

You literally get a LARGE boost after retrieving your gear for several seconds to help you get away. That's in addition to not losing skill progress after having recently died. Just do what the rest of us do and try not to put yourself in the situation again and if you do, actually do some preparation before you just run in and get your stuff. Make some armour, get some decent food. Keep some emergency supplies at home just in case it happens again.

It's not something worth complaining about. What is even your argument here. I suck too much to get my gear back so it shouldn't be recoverable? What!?

Distract the enemy from your tombstone. U turn and run to grab it.
You don't have to be weak, eat 3 food to get you to 120+ HP and lot of stam. Eykthir power is your friend.

Guys, im not looking for gameplay advice but ty anyway. I am saying it's a poor gameplay mechanic because the deciding factor is the game pause due to to inventory limit, so you cant prep if previous inventory is higher. If you grind to replace gear so as to prep with enough to conquer camping enemy then the gear is then not worth recovering (you have already replaced it anyway). So whats the point in having the recovery mechanic at all?
I mean, this feature you are talking about is already there. You died and lost your stuff to an enemy you are not prepared to fight, and now you can't get it because it's too powerful.

That's pretty hardcore man.

I'm enjoying the game a lot but the gear recovery COULD be made slightly less frustrating.
MaceLupo Feb 16, 2021 @ 5:42pm
I always got my stuff back. Play smart! I find the mechanic ok like it is.

My post was less 'help me' but more 'is this good game design?' My gear is on mountain biome surrounded by wolves (fast). It is in place that is in a difficult to access drop (that you can die just from fall damage). I am sure I will get the stuff back. My point is that as far as game design is concerned I would rather just lose it completely and move on. Rather than have it difficult/impossible to recover because of the arbitrary position I happened to lose it and the menu transfer limitations. I just don't think it works well as game mechanic.

this kind of mechanic is quite common for this type of game.
and it is not poor, it is quite balance, where you get punish for dying, but still have a chance to retrieve it. how to retrieve is up to the player.

and if you go hardcore, then there is no purpose of having pvp in the game later on.

perhaps dev can add option where there is no item drop for player like you.
same with how terraria or starbound or other game have the same option.

what can be improve tho, the old death location should stay persistence in the map.
instead of just showing the last death location, they should make the marker persistence until you pick up the gravestone

ah yes, know.your.limitations.

plains = death to those who havent beaten bonemass..
Hullabaloo Feb 16, 2021 @ 6:03pm
I have no problem with punishment for dying, I would rather it was more severe tbh. It just seems to me that the situation is random. For example: I died the 1st time to the Elder where recovery was very easy. Yet in this mountain biome (environment damage), it's position and because my inventory was full, it suddenly becomes very hard, even though the enemies themselves are weaker. I just find that annoying.
