Do the graphics feel like an art style?
I'm on the fence about buying this game. From the trailers and screenshots the graphics seem... unnecessarily low resolution. It doesn't come across as a pixel-graphics game, especially with the lighting effects and decent looking water, but textures are not good enough to be placed in the "realistic" category.

I know, I know, graphics don't make the game. But when you're playing the game, do the low res textures come off as an art style or do they come off as lazy?

When playing this game, it comes off as an art style and I sometimes stop to stare at it.

Then again, I'm not someone who buys games for graphics. Another favorite of mine with art style is Journey.

Art & Intentional would be my description.

i dont even notice the low textures when playing. fog/mist rain, physics, storms lighting and all those things are too captivating.

Doesn't come off as lazy. Definitely feels like an art style.

it comes of as the best looking game in my 800 games library..sure it is a matter of taste but I have never seen anything this beautiful

I have to admit, it took me a little while to get used to the low poly textures. Now, I hardly notice it unless I'm zoomed all the way in with my char, which I try not to do. The world is beautiful at a distance though :lunar2019piginablanket:

Feels like zelda if you stretch your switch screen to the size of a 70 inch tv

I'll be crucified for this, but to me they come off as lazy, not an art style. The Long Dark, Sea of Theives, and even one of this developer's former titles Deep Rock Galactica, are what I'd consider truly "art styles". They're art, but at a very high fidelity. This is not art, it's a design decision that comes across as very lazy.

But does that, in any way, detract from the things that make this an absolutely killer game to play? For me, no. For you? Idk...

I'm not here to crucify you, I'd just recommend you take an entry level art class at a CC and/or a graphics design or 3d art class.

Either way, you should elaborate more on why you think it isn't art if you feel strongly about it.

Sometimes graphics just don't matter. Stardew Valley - Factorio - Rimworld - Valheim.

I think it's just one of those things though. Boils down to personal preferences. Like: I TOTALLY just don't get some of the adult cartoons out there like Southpark or even Family Guy, American Dad... Rick and Morty (like... what the hell??) took some time for me to fully appreciate any of them... it's not for everyone.

It's good to know you are a graphical snob though - Personally: I'm an audiophile and will NEVER again own any lesser product than my current Bose headphones... for example. I may miss out on Dr Dre's latest headphones or whatever... but I'm ok with that because I've found what I like and no one on earth will displace that in me.

So for you: maybe you just absolutely NEED a certain quality of graphics to even begin to start to enjoy the game play mechanics. And that's cool!

Either way, you should elaborate more on why you think it isn't art if you feel strongly about it, other than strictly comparing to other games. Guess I'm merely curious why.

I'd have to agree with FadeXF(above), based on what I can currently see - "So for you: maybe you just absolutely NEED a certain quality of graphics to even begin to start to enjoy the game play mechanics. And that's cool!"
