Base building
Having trouble with building a 2 story longhall. Have foundations (2-4m log pole) on every floor tile, have foundations running up every wall and around the roof bur some parts just collapse. Spent around 3 hours making sure the structure was perfect and then placed down a hearth for heat and the entire house recieved damage and had to repair everything. What are the rules on building because its really confusing? cant go over a certian height regardless of foundations and support? Now i build around a bon fire with it in the centre of the house for heat but if there's any good guides can you link them please.

Did you vent the smoke out the roof? If not then that would most likely be the culprit in my opinion.

Impossible to say, really. One important thing to do is build the floors and then the support beams, pillars and ceiling trusses FIRST. Whatever you think is ample, install more. Check the lower level highlights as blue, and that all the supports are at least green. THEN fill the walls in, checking the highlight colours as you go. Place a camp fire down and make sure you have ample ventilation for the smoke.

Don't fall for the survival game staple of using Floors as flat roofs. They aren't waterproof and damage can result from that alone. I'm told the waterlogging damage stops at 50% but none of my buildings have had waterlogging because I'm careful.

The height is limited from the base ground. That's why you'll need to even the level of all the ground you're building on.

If you put some torches, you'll have to place them with sufficient free space above them or they'll stop working.
For fire, you need a chimney or a really high roof, would say about 4 to 6 meters at least.
But best is to build a chimney in the middle of the roof for the smoke to evacuate.
You can use the inclined pole to increase the resistance of your building, but no matter if you put them everywhere, your building can't go higher than 14 or 16 meters with luck including roof.
I don't build 2m floor, cause I find it to low for the height of character, I usually build 3 or even 4m high floor minimum. This way you can build a 3 floors building.
But getting the roof done is another story... you'll have to use your imagination to make the structure stronger.

In the screenshots of the game you can see they have built a stone castle, I'm eagger to see how did they do, cause building a 3 floors building of 12m (not including roof) is quite a challenge.

yea the bon fire is on the ground in a 2x2 space and the house is built around it and its vented.

That makes a lot of sense, when constructing the build it was raining and kept getting damaged. thought at first it was the supports but had the idea that is was water damage but didn't think the game would have a feature like that and put it down as a bug.

my main reason to get this game was because of how nice the base building looked in the screenshots, but its so hard to find a good area, started to settle in plains because its the flattest place i can build on, but cant even get close to what they made in the screenshots they must have been able to turn off building restrictions to build the stuff for the screenshots.

I take it you're not using the Hoe to flatten and raise the terrain? If not, make one, slap a floor down at about the height you'd prefer, and Flatten away on it and around it. :) Add more floor panels and rinse and repeat. I do it with with my veggie patch, too, to make it as flat as is feasible.

The Pickaxe is a heavy-hitter when flattening out really lumpy terrain but it's got its uses.
