Solo = hardcore?
Is this game designed to be exceptionally difficult if you go solo? I don;t mind a challenge but if you die in the wrong spot/time of day, etc. you're basically hosed.

From what I've heard, the difficulty scales with the number of players.

I play solo. I think I am around 50 hours in, no problems.

The difficulty seems nicely balanced to me, but solo or single-player isn't "hardcore", not for me, anyway. It can be a brutal game at times though, I'll say that much! Still, there are corpse markers to help out.

Im playing solo. First boss is cake with the basic bow and arrows. Killed eveything the "Forest is moving" event threw at me whithout going inside any structure. Killed a troll with the first bow and flint tipped arrows. So far the only risk is a troll seeing you before you see him or getting cornered in a crypt (oh and trying to swim when you have no stamina).

The worst thing that happened to me solo was after sleeping in a new house, i opened the door to 3 lox spawned at my door step. They proceeded to demolish my house/ship and i had to raft it to retrieve body, then i lost my newly crafted ship after getting shanked by a goblin trying to leave the island. Nearly gave up but i kept at it now im collecting iron.

The difficulty scales with the number of players, so if your friends are useless, it's actually easier solo ;p

It's very doable solo if you are well prepared. That's really all it takes is preparation.

The most dangerous thing I have encountered so far is the auto save kicking in when bulding up very high. High.

The difficulty is actually early game when you have to farm deer and boar + skeletons . Then time consuming getting bronze . Once you get to iron it's snooze time . Silver is just another snooze fest then once you get to plains you'll probably be in silver and it's pretty much a joke after that .

That's what I hate too, if dying in a wrong spot then say goodbye to your gears.

At that point, either play god or savescum. I played god twice now I savescum. To my defense I was multitasking on another game on android emulator coz some mobile games have auto and I thought plains was meadows.

Imo the game should offer better mechanic for corpse run that is still possible no matter what the situation is. As much as I want to play legit, situation like this is intolerable and too wasting time for me. I'm up for a challenge but no to making a second third and so on set of same gears.

I play solo and I do fine, game is a bit grindy so dont rush just enjoy your stay in the game, it's small only 1gb so it can practically stay forever in your harddrive even in your ssd. You don't have to make progress everytime you play, even just doing chores like chopping woods, stockpiling stones, filling up food storage, fermenting stuffs, planting stuffs, then call it a day is fine.

No, but it IS generally very difficult if you're solo and don't put much time into preparing via consumables / upgrading gear after making it.
If you try and race in this game, you're gonna have a bad time, and you'll end up being one of the guys posting about how the swamp or its boss is too hard.

Solo is easy in that you are not bound by someone else - you do whatever you want and prepare as much as you desire.

It is more difficult in terms of management though. When you have a friend or two, who can specialize for certain activities and playstyles, everyone gain higher skills in their own avenues and work more effectively for mutual benefit.

Difficulty scaling seem to be well-balanced.

I haven't had any problems solo.

Wow, this is an old thread. I posted to it when I was 50 hours in solo. I am now at 200 hours and still doing fine.

...huh, you're right. Weird, apparently I'm the one who revived it, even though it showed up on the first page for me. Wtf.

It is ok. Go sit in the corner and think about what you did.
