the bow should not have any spread when fully drawn
this is frustrating. i'm wasting arrows, because the game is throwing a wrench in the works.

It doesn't?

The crude bow has one hell of a drop, but I don't recall any of the bows having spread when fully drawn.

It seems like the level of the bow and your skills make a difference.

Fine bow being better than crude bow..

But also the crude bow being better with higher skill level.

So it is a mixture of different things or just my imagination. But I did start over once with a character I had leveled from a previous world and found the crude bow to work better so I think that is how it works from my experience.

Part of the problem is the aim point of the bow doesn't actually match the crosshair at any point of its flight. Aim high and to the right.

i'm using finewood bow, fully upgraded, roughly at 25 skill. and no one is talking about bullet drop. i'm trying to shoot enemies from far away (about the max distance of surtling fireballs) and i keep missing because the arrows randomly shoot a bit to the left or right.

Nothing more satisfying than hunting deer, one is alerted and starts to run away and sideways, you loft that shot from the crude bow tracking the deer at a receding angle and hit the shot. That's some good eatin', right there.

*You* may be "skilled" enough to point your crosshair at a target, or slightly above it to compensate for drop. That doesn't mean your character should then also be a god at archery immediately.

A man with a mediocre bow and a little bit of practice isn't going to be shooting perfectly straight every shot.

I'm not sure if it's the archery skill or type of bow that actually matters more for spread. The only time I remembered seeing spread was with the crude bow. Finewood may have had some, but I was generally only shooting large targets like deer, trolls, draugrs, etc, so the minor arrow spread never mattered.

By the time I got to the iron bow, I no experienced any issues with spread, and arrow drop was much less. Once you get to the final bow and have your archery skill up a bit, you shoot straight lasers every shot.

It's just how most of the game is. Your character starts off bad at things, then slowly gets better.

All ballistic trajectories naturally follow an arcing path to the destination in a gravitational field and thick atmosphereic drag plays a part as well. Physics is a beast speed kills thats why Sir Isaac Newton is considered the most deadly physicist in modern history. Remember to lead your target shoot where the arrow is going to land not directly at your target. Its not a .50 cal sniper rifle with a near 1.5 mile per second muzzle velocity.

I’m curious to know if any deviation in an arrow’s flight corresponds with the direction the wind is blowing at the time of the shot. We aren’t firing small chunks of metal engendered for accuracy at over 1,000 feet per second after all, and wind is a major factor for all projectile weaponry.

I'm pretty sure the wind has no effect on projectiles. This isn't Arma.

I remember shooting deathquitos at horizon. Had to aim 3-4 meters above them to fix for the arrow trajectory, but never had problems with left or right deviation.

What are you even shooting that is so small, you can miss it sideways?

I shot some birds as well with a crude bow, indeed its a pain to have to aim so much higher all the time, but still don't remember any horizontal issues even at the lowest skill levels.

decreasing the players aim based on skill points is bad game design. the bow skill could be used for damage and draw speed, but not for accuracy. by skill i mean my own skill, not my characters skill.

Whatever you do, don't play Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

;D

Why do you think you know so much about how the game is designed?

The game does not decrease your aim based on skill points. At 25 skill you've shot way too few arrows to assert that the game is designed poorly or that you know better. Did it ever occur to you that the crappy bows aren't as accurate as the better ones? By design?
i never thought so until i read your comment. you said i wasn't skilled enough and specifically pointed at the skill level. i've been playing plenty of games with similar bow physics for years. i'm pretty confident in my aim.

The wind does play a part in several mechanics in the game, so it wouldn't surprise me if it does have some slight influence there.
