Map is way too big.
Just want to vent my humble opinion here, as much as I love this game and am completely addicted, I think the world map is way too big. Considering how much real time it takes just to get around on my starting island and then realizing that there are hundreds of islands more and how long it takes to get somewhere by boat I think they could have made the map 75% smaller and it would still be fun.

I wanted to see how big my island was so I figured the best and safest way was to sail all the way around it. At about three quarters of the way round, which literally took me like 3 hours of real time, I got stuck and lost somewhere. I got too frustrated with no way of getting back to my home without knowing where the hell I was. So I resorted to the map cheat (I had already seen screenshots of the fully exposed world) and I was able to get back to my home base after another hour of sailing.

The map size makes it way too much of a grind trying to find that 1 merchant or having to travel all across the map for a specific Boss. And getting there is one thing, but you also have to get back.

Portals are useless because you can only link 2, I dont understand the point of that either.

So the only way to get back home is to cheat with goto command.

Bummer really and it's the only thing I dislike about this game.

I don't feel the map is too big. Higher tier boats gets faster. I do agree the trader is a b*tch to find. I don't know if he does, but he should spawn in multiple locations, preferable one at the starting Island or close if it has a black forrest.

Hopefully in the future the player will be able to use mods or game settings to fully customize the experience and you won't feel this pain.

I LOVE the size of the map, the bigger the better! I like to explore and am so disappointed when I begin to learn a map. Like with many other EA survival games, there is no end game here, the grind IS the game (and that is OK) so rushing here and there is not appealing to me. I do not use portals and honestly believe that they only serve to hasten the inevitable burn out we experience with this type of game.

The world gets small quickly. Especially if you play with others.

What do you mean portals can only link two? I make multiple bases, and have each base go to a portal hub. From the portal hub I can go to any base, boss, merchant, or other points of interest. Make sure you're naming them something unique.

Don't settle on one location too long. Make mining bases in strategic spots and use portals to transfer the non metal goods between. Craft where you smelt, smelt near where you mine.

The map size is great, the rng generation on the otherhand needs some work id say

Id like to see larger landmasses more sense to the breakdown of the biomes large oceans and more defined riverways

Disagree. The variety of places to settle in or explore and the distance to sail through is significant part of the game for me. Reduced map size will definitely screw over double the amount of people with unfavorable seeds.

How can you get stuck and then sail back still? How can you get lost with the map precisely showing you how to get back? Your story doesn't make much sense.

I'm so tired of people calling any and every activity in the game as grind, there's probably nothing else that makes me more angry at this point.

Uh... useless? Do you know you can build as many portals as you want everywhere?
You just set a portal on your base and you take components for the new portal with you or find the at the location, and you can get to your base and back at any time, anywhere?

Man, I'm losing all faith in humanity.

portals are not useless wtf are you talking about. also early access they could come out with more conventional ways of travel like horses or other molunts etc but for the love of god dont ask them to make the map smaller, its not even a released game yet you have no idea what they could add to all these biomes and you want the map smaller? thats like when CDPR made cp2077 shorter because a small portion of the population with small attention spans didnt complete the game. I strongly disagree with this as the future of development will surely lessen the travel. again though the fact you thihnk portals are useless is just baFFling conisdering what you are complaining about

Just pretend the rest of the map doesn't exist then. I've seen at least one thread saying the map is too small.

This.

However, I still choose to do none of those things mentioned that would make ore trips easier and run ore from its source site to a seaport site, then to another seaport site with ore refiners then take the refined bars across the sea to another port site and cart them to my poorly chosen main base site. (running around with 2000+ load in a cart=pure exhilaration)

I'm currently at maxed out iron gear so we will see if i can keep that attitude for the next armor material.

Mapsize is nice
Killed 7 Days to die for me when they reduced the mapsize down from 314 km² to arround 80 km²

Imagine you play the map for several weeks/months
The mapsize is really fine, maybe even too msall when all 9 Biomes need their place

How do you get lost when you can just check the map to see where you are? Did you not use the marker to mark your home base?

Agreed that the deal with the merchant needs reworking, but bosses have multiple spawn locations. You don't have to go to the specific marker to spawn the boss. All biomes should be within reachable distance of your starting location as well. I haven't had any need to sail very far at all.

You can rename portals lol. I only keep 1 portal at my home base and rename it accordingly in order to teleport to specific locations around the map.
Gran Feb 28, 2021 @ 10:26am
Since we can bring the building material for a boat trough a portal, i don't understand your Problem.
Treefiddy Feb 28, 2021 @ 10:51am
The map becomes smaller when you hit mid to high tier. Exploration takes time I they nailed it, damn near perfect start.. i can't wait for expansion with all the biomes. You wont cry as much when they add horses and new ships.
