Dedicated Server or Paid Server?

Has anyone had experience using a paid server? We currently play on a dedicated server I have running on my gaming rig, but we are encountering desync/lag issues when we have more than 3 people in the same location. Would our lag issues be resolved by paying for a dedicated valheim server through one of the various server hosting sites or would we still encounter the same issues we are encountering now?

I have done some trouble shooting on my own, having altered the DataPerSec field in ZDOman to 512000 (my upload rate is around 5.6mbps) in both the server assembly and my client assembly.

We bought server today and with 4 players it was unplayable. Couldnt open chests, hit enemies ect. A lot disconnects, freezings. Elder was most fun as one of us killed him but 3 of us saw him alive and stuck. Couldnt do dmg on him and then after 5mins we were able to kill him. So we killed him twice and we summoned him once tho.

I have a paid server, it runs great unless one of my friends who has bad internet is playing then sometimes there is desyncing issues but it is not unplayable. Otherwise really happy with the paid product.

That all depends on the infrastructure the Hosting service use, how many high ping players are on and if the host is cramming to many servers on virtual boxes on the same physical machine and not allocating enough CPU for the servers usage. The game as i understand is more CPU intensive over ram allocation

Hosting providers tend to provide the best experience, as they use the latest hardware and have plenty of bandwidth available. That being said, hosting a server yourself is a possible alternative.

You'll need to have a gaming PC that is powerful enough to run both the game client and the server. You'll also require a high-speed internet connection with high upload speeds. 5.6 Mbps may be a fast enough to avoid any lag issues. If you have other devices or other family members sharing your internet connection, then you may experience lag.

My wife and I enjoy playing LAN. Her old laptop was having screen issues, so I installed Ubuntu on it some time ago. Looking at Valheim, I followed the directions on https://re-actor.net/valheim-dedicated-server-in-linux/ and it just freakin' worked. Very easy. I wouldn't bother with a paid service. Having my own "headless" machine and Valheim as a Linux server is very happy in my case.
