Cheating
It may sound a bit sad and naive, but why is cheating allowed in this game??

I was really enjoying playing the game until I realised there was a cheat command. I felt like a huge part of the enjoyment of the game came from the satisfaction of putting in the time, playing properly, discovering and building things and progressing as the game was meant to be played? It's completely stripped of all of that knowing that people can just cheat and skip their way ahead to getting everything really quickly. It's not as impressive otherwise, and takes away the sense of achievement and satisfaction you get from grinding to get the advanced stuff.. regardless of single player or online.

It is a strange topic, one that I would like to chime in with.

Put simply, if I see someone that has built a HUGE epic base, has a company of 10 warriors all clad in the greatest armour and strongest weapons, then I feel awed and inspired to progress knowing what I can achieve through effort of my own

If I then learn that it took just a few commands on a cheat console then it completely diminishes everything I feel. It's like viewing a beautiful drawing then learning it is a colour-by-numbers.

I personally feel great reward and accomplishment knowing that I have achieved greatness that others are also able to achieve through effort. Knowing others didn't use the same effort I am using can spoil the accomplishment. This is how some people "game". Others "game" without a single care what the next person is doing. I, unfortunately, am unable to do this.

Knowing the cheat is there, lurking behind a button and a few lines of text makes me feel foolish; it feels like I am being openly mocked for my effort and perseverance.

That said, I wouldn't want the "cheats" removed, because this is early access, people also need to test things.

You know that there is a whole industry that tries to stop cheater in PVP games ?
They dont even archived that the last 20 Years on games that run on a Dedictaed server.
And now pls tell me how you want to make a game Cheatsafe that runs on a local client ?

I don't even think the OP is remotely concerned about the multiplayer aspect, because it wasn't even mentioned a single time in this thread, besides, servers can be password protected, so besides people you trust, I see no issue.

But what should you do if you want to join public server without cheats? Keed changing server after server, hoping that you'll get lucky?

Guys, really don't understand, why you're flaming OP su much. Like, his point would be stupid if this was solely a single player game and the problem is, you can go to other people's online servers with character created with cheats and this will obviously ruin the fun for other people on this server. Same thing happens if you join server with people who use cheats there and it then ruins fun for you.

This simple thing completely ruins "public servers" as a whole, since if you want a challenging game with random people, if your friends are currently unavailable, you need to keep changing servers and only sheer luck will determine if you'll fing server without cheats being used on your second or on your fifteenth try.

Taking away console cheats won't prevent people from cheating. People who want to cheat will always find ways of cheating anyway. At least now you can easily make maxed chars to counter them ^^

Since its a Singleplayer / Local Coop-Game Cheats arent really a concern. What people do with their own games is up to them, as long as I dont have to interact with them.

Dont mark it the answer on your topic if you don't think its the answer. You're falling apart thats for sure. Saying one thing, getting called out and then trying to deny it. Come back when you're older and know how to actually make an consistent argument.

Lol you're an idiot. I do think it's still the answer... you're still missing the logic behind if it wasn't there in the first place it wouldn't be an answer.

Tell me, would it bother you if it was removed?
I'm bothered with limiting other peoples experience for petty reasons. Try to wrap your head around that... You calling me in idiot is kinda based as I'm not the one crying about how other people might want to use cheats.

Tell me, why dont you go to minecraft forums and enforce your iron will on how they should cancel Creative mode. Same jacket, different colour. Stop dodging your own mistakes and save whatever is left of your dignity.

After the minecraft forums you should go to Rockstar GTA forums and tell them to ban cheats aswel. Better yet, mail the entire ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gaming scene to remove mods and debug consoles.
You seem to miss any trace of introspection. You want cheats removed from this game? I want ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to not get food and get sterilized so they cant spread their level of retardness on the next generation. But hey, thats just an opinion isnt it.

Well, you have anwered to my part of message that covers exactly the way to at least do something about it and I see no reason not to do this. You don't want people to cheat on your server - you press the "Disable cheats" button on the menu, when creating a server. Sure, that may not stop all cheats, but at least most of them. since it's way easier to press F5, that it is to fing mods for cheats. And if there would also be a "Disable mods on server" button, that it would solve the problem almost completely.

I dont play online so i dont have this problem, i never use cheat, but i understand what you are saying, and i hope the devs add an option to block console commands in mp servers, or just remove it completely from the game.
Maybe its time to you to find other players to play with you, players that wont use cheats, there is a look for group here on steam, i bet that you can find many people that want to play mp without any kind of cheat. :cozybethesda:
Sir Sparrow Feb 25, 2021 @ 5:47am
Right now, the problem is quite obvious - if you don't like cheating and want to play game as it was meant to be played with RANDOM people, and you create a server\join a server, you have are risking to have your fun ruined either by cheaters on their server or created by cheats characters that will join your servers.

You will find not a single one game that runs on a players PC that is safe against cheats.

NOT A SINGLE ONE

I could understand this mindset in the sense of cheating in an online server a little, not that this is a competitive game at all where that really matters, but it's baffling to complain about it in regards to how someone wants to play on their own offline. I play this game because I know I'm gonna put a whole lot of hours into grinding out farming and exploring. 70 hours so far without even considering that someone could've accomplished all that I did in less than 5, because that's now how I want to play it.

Heck, when I'm done with the games current content, I might start a new character and pop on cheats just so that I can fool around with the cool building aspect with no restrictions, because that also sounds like fun.

Just play the game how you want to play it, don't worry about how other players are playing theirs.

As I've said, "Sure, that may not stop all cheats, but at least most of them. since it's way easier to press F5, that it is to find mods for cheats." For examle, there are cheats in Dota, and they are quite easy to find. Those, that can show you enemy locations, their wards, items in their inventory, etc. But you can see a cheater...maybe in one game out of a hundred. If you're unlucky. Since most people don't care about going so far as dedicately searching for cheats on in internet. On the other hand, if you had in-game console always avaliable for cheating, you'd see cheats in every or almost every game.

Also, anyway, what would be the harm in letting a player decide whether to allow or not allow cheats\mods on their sever while creating it?

It's a single player or small co-op game basically. Since no dev could design such a game to please everyone, they allow "cheating" to fine tune the player experience. 2 main types:

1) Modding (changing the game rules): This allows all players to fine tune their game experience the way they want it, and is the main way games like this survive long term. Also saves the devs programming endless options to provide the same effect. Everyone should support this even if they do not plan to mod themselves. Mods bring only positive things to the game and extend its life and player base considerably which increases the chances of DLC or a sequel or whatever.

2) The admin console: Allows the spawning in of any items you want. Very useful in EA as bugs can often unfairly wipe your progress (extremely common in this game).
