What's the best fully upgraded melee weapon for the plains?
I've fully upgraded the Frostner and Porcupine, and it looks like the Frostner does more damage even though it's obtained earlier, so I wonder if the black steel sword is better or just the same stats wise when fully upgraded?

You can google "Valheim wiki" and look at the weapons stats. Takes less time to look than post here and wait for an answer.

The black metal sword cuts down goblins way quicker than frostner.

In addition, it is worth getting the black metal atgeir or the fang spear for killing loxes. They take normal damage from pierce, but they are resistant to blunt and slash.

The black metal weapons will deal more damage, but the frostner's ability just makes it better than the rest. These weapons don't cost a lot to make, so just make one of each and try them out. I personally like the sword against deathsquitos and the atgeir for lox.

Thanks Samael. Although I am aware of the damage values, I'm also looking for an expansion on what people consider worth it, such as the frost slow effect vs sword range, attack patterns, or maybe I'm wrong in assuming that Frostner is better than Porcupine as, although the damage values are higher like the wiki says, I don't know how the frost calculation factors in against goblins.

Thanks for your input though.

Thanks, I'll assume the black metal sword is the go to for plains. Would the porcupine be good against Lox, or does it only do half of its damage because it's both piercing and blunt?

I have not tested porcupine, but I imagine it would not do as much damage as a full pierce weapon against a lox.

There are no monsters in the game yet that has a weakness to SLASH DAMAGE.

So a Silver sword with it's spirit bonus will do more dmg than the black metal sword.

Blunt and Pierce is more useful.

Silver sword is 93 slash + 45 spirit dmg at lvl 4.

Black Metal Sword is 115 slash dmg at lvl 4 and that's it.

So you're saying the Silver Sword is the best overall? Blunt and Pierce is more useful in what way, than the Silver Sword? What about when factoring full upgrades, as the wiki does not report this?

Do goblins take spirit damage as normal values? Their weaknesses say they're immune to Spirit DoT, but does that detract from the damage of Spirit weapons?

Yeah the wiki shows the upgrade.

Silver sword is 93 slash + 45 spirit dmg at lvl 4. So 138.

Black Metal Sword is 115 slash dmg at lvl 4 and that's it.

But like others said...if you go fight monster that has a piercing weakness you don't get a sword. Same for blunt weakness.

But the silver sword upgraded to lvl 4 will do more dmg than that black sword because of it's spirit attribute dmg bonus.

The Porcupine does 113 damage. (50 pierce, 63 pierce) +big knockback
The silver sword does 138 damage. ( 93 slash 45 spirit)
The Frostner does 113 damage. (35 blunt, 58 frost, 20 spirit) +freezes targets
Blackmetal sword does 113 damage

yup, frostner is not about damage, but about getting a bit control when you've lost it because some big group with 1-2 starred versions got too close which normally doesn't happen.

I've used bow most of times. It one shots goblins from afar and can kill lox just fine. It was a bit surprise that even basic wooden arrows do pretty much the same damage especially to goblins and still oneshots them (with sneak attack).

Is the Silver Sword just objectively better than the Blackmetal sword? From what people are saying, Spirit will always do its damage value so there's no downside to it, but can also do a DoT to certain enemies?
kampfer91 Feb 23, 2021 @ 6:15pm
Spirit will burn skeleton . draugh and werewolf .
Kurt Feb 23, 2021 @ 6:26pm
I'm pretty sure spirit damage only applies to undead enemies and werewolves, and doesn't do anything to anyone else.

I was thinking that too.
