Why are the graphics so god awful?

It's like looking at a PS2 console demo.

I mean, there seem to be a lot of things to do, and going from reviews it appears the map is large (maybe not that large once you view the map from above), but the graphics are difficult for me to get past. Will they be getting upgraded?

When the thread is full of people telling me that extremely low res textures that look 20 years old are somehow good, yeah I'm just gonna label you a fanboy. You cannot seriously look at the character creation screen and think "this looks good". The game is fun, it's an awesome game. It's great despite the terrible graphics. I can like things and still have criticisms of them

How good a game looks doesn't depend on the resolution of the graphics though? The lighting in this game is brilliant, and it's just not low res textures either, they also use it in combination with the low poly models. This has been an aesthetic for quite some time now. It's much easier than creating high fidelity assets while still keeping a visually appealing game.

But you probably won't understand, and think that 2D pixel art games have awful graphics as well.

That's why these threads are stupid, because you can't argue opinions. Fanboy is a dumb insult too because it carries no weight when you abuse using it on people who disagree with you. Anyone can be a fanboy if that's the case... even you. It's just dumb.

I find the graphics "really good." Better than Rust - 7 days to Die - The Long Dark - Ark - Green Hell - Subsistance - as a basic short list.

"Really Good" being like: bro... this is in the survival genre - and honestly? The entire genre is pretty trash level graphically speaking (let's be honest)... I like the atmosphere, and aesthetics. Especially on the ocean!

It also runs like garbage. I'm about to refund. I have a 5700xt and 3600. Probably a better PC than most of the mutts playing this game but I can't tolerate how god awful it runs when compared to other games that have far more sophisticated graphics. I'm getting 55fps at 4k at medium settings LOL yeah right, instant refund.

While i have to agree at first look the graphics are not eye candy.
after a few mins i dont even see it anymore,
so much about this game is totally amazing your gona miss out if you dont buy it.

60fps at 4k with an rtx3070 and a 3800x, i am pretty sure the game locks at 60fps or something because a mate of mine with similar specs gets the same performance at 1440p. I mean you do you, but i dont really consider 60fps to be bad despite it having low polly/low res textures. It is certainly playable.

Then again, its still in early access, which can be a cause for bad optimisation.
